I don't think it is a fair term. It sends a negative message to a student that their parent's should not be invovled in their college experience. While a parent should not be the center of the college experience, they should be revered as a mentor. Too many college campuses lack in the areas of guidance and support. Students, especially Freshmen and Sophmores, need a little extra help navigating "the red tape."
