I don't text and usually don't use my phone while driving as it is too easy to get in an accident. I think people should use common sense and not force a law. I'm tired of all the laws. We just need to be responsible. The Gov't controls our lives enough (too much). People just need to use their heads. How can we have freedom if we keep adding more laws?

The Federal government has no business dictating what we as citizens do. The Federal government is large enough already and has usurped enough power from the states as it is. This is a state issue, NOT a Federal issue.

You want to make driving safer? Then MANDATE that driver's education be completely re-worked to a German or Finnish-style driver education program. Over 1-year long, with hands on instruction in vehicle dynamics, accident avoidance, skid control, and classroom time learning the same. To get your license you must prove mastery of these skills on the road. Then make EVERYONE in the Country attend driver's ed all over again, and re-certify every so often.

Establish a standard for driving etiquette. Create harsh penalties for failing to keep right except to pass. Create harsher penalties for DUI, second offense = permanent loss of license.

99% of all crashes are caused by one or more drivers running out of talent or making a mistake. Over 40,000 people died in car crashes last year. When will we realize that it is time to improve the driver?
