Pat, you're a crumb to say that. How and where someone dies is a God thing. Knowing McQueen has fans like you makes him less cool.

Elvis may have passed away over 30 years ago but his memory will live on forever

Cool is down...Parker, Monk.
Kinda Blue. Miles woulda worn it, but Rahsaan R Kirk woulda delivered.
Dizzy marketed his own clothes.
Hugh Masekela would have re-tribalized it.
Tartan being tribal.
If there's a today for the Cuta it oughta be hip-hop, but with Portishead & Happy Mondays tagging along.
Never an NBA brand, here stateside it's effete, for the aestheticist.
I'll be buried in my orange one, apologies to Dublin, with it rebranded as a Harley out of Milwaukee.
As Secretary of the Memories of Elvis Fan Club in New Zealand I work to keep Elvis alive here. Go Elvis win this poll, of course you are the best.

Elvis is the greatest cultural force in the twentieth century. He introduced the beat to everything, music, language, clothes, it's a whole new social revolution — the 60's comes from it.
Leonard Bernstein

Elvis was the KING OF COOL!
Enough said!

There is no doubt that McQueen was a very good actor & popular guy & won't soon be forgotten. However, putting him up against an American icon is no match. They really can't be compared. Elvis left a musical legacy (whether one likes it or not) that completely changed how music viewed & how society is viewed. He wins hands down!
Undoubtedly, the first thing that comes to mind when you think of a harrington is McQueen. Elvis the early years, dressed better, but in the last sixties, I think that bordered on ridiculous in their clothes. So my vote is no doubt .. Steve McQueen.
Ask anyone who is the coolest, Steve or Elvis?
None will reply, Elvis who? :-)

I think Clint Eastwood would give Elvis a better run than Steve. I voted Elvis.

Elvis est mon préféré: il y a quelque chose dans sa voix qui m'émeut et me transporte: je l'écoute à longueur de journée.
There are many very cool life-sized bronze statues of Elvis Presley in countries all over the world. I guess that's Checkmate Doc.

Love McQueen, but Elvis was an original in every way. He dressed the way HE wanted to, even when taunted and outcasted. He sang the way HE wanted to, even when banned. He moved the way HE wanted to, even when censored. Oh yes, cool is as cool does and he had it in spades. Love McQueen, but Elvis was a zenith in coolness. Only 1 of him and his v8 personality!

Elvis was the coolest person who ever lived. His iconic status is unsurpassed throughout the world even today.

At this moment Steve McQueen is in the lead. The one problem with this kind of poll is that people who've never even seen a Steve McQueen film will still vote for him as 'cool' because that's the image that's touted in regard to him. On the other hand, Elvis suffers from the totally unwarranted image that people have of him. Perhaps if they bothered to look past the lurid stories about drugs, being overweight, etc, then they might actually understand the impact that he made on the world, both musically and culturally. Look beyond the tabloid image and realise that Elvis was the epitome of cool. Steve McQueen was fine, but most of his 'cool' image seems to rely on one film, Bullit. His character in the film may have been cool but it hardly changed the world in the way Elvis did in regard to Rock music and the ensuing youth culture that surrounds it to this day. Now that's cool! Pity that some are gullible enough to condemn Elvis as being uncool based on the garbage that's been fed to them through various means, rather than acknowledging the debt that's owed to him in regard to the huge influence and impact he had. Think about that when listening to your favourite band!

Elvis was the epitome of 'cool' from his originality, looks, talent, dress sense, demeanour. No-one can live up to the Icon that is Elvis - he is everywhere in modern culture.
Joe Carnevale - 15 years ago
There was never anybody cooler then Elvis! McQueen was okay, but he never set any fashion or hair trends, like Elvis did!
Much as we liked Steve McQueen few wanted to be him. On the other hand millions wanted to be the 1950s Elvis Presley.
Because of Elvis we changed our Hairstyles, clothes, and taste in music.
Try not bumping into an image of Elvis as you go about your general shopping.
