This story is really quite amazing, to say the least! The pup was found while hauling traps off the coast of Vinalhaven. Three fisherman pulled up to the little girl while she was floating along clearly needing a helping hand. With no mother anywhere in sight the three men used a tote to get the little one aboard. The umbilical cord was still attached and it was obvious that she wasn’t more than a couple days old. With the seal in good hands the good Samaritans steamed back to the island and made proper arrangements for the seal to be taken care of. From Vinalhaven he made a trip across the bay with the Maine State Ferry Service after the car ride to the ferry. The seal went from dangerous currents and tides to a boat, then a jeep, then back to boat, and then for a ride to his new home in good hands!

P.S. As a personal associate of the fisherman I think that the new born should bare the name Christina “lucky” Isles. The name is of some christian origin “st. Christopher” being the patron st.of travel, and isles representing the islands of the Penopscot bay. I don’t believe there’s any explanation needed for”lucky”

What about 'Bantry Bay"-an international city

  • Marta Frisardi - Department of Biology - 12 years ago

I suggest names come from beaches around the world (many unique, lovely names here).

All the better to educate about marine sites!

    Ciao,

    Marta

We've added Shakespeare, Car Models, and Cities.... we did Star Wars last year as part of our "80's movies Characters"...it was a hit!

How about classic movie star names? Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable, Jimmy Durante, Gregory Peck, maybe even current names like Lady Gaga (even though she's technically not a movie star :-) Wouldn't that be so funny to announce the release of Frank Sinatra and Audrey Hepburn??
