I am a non traditional student with grown adult children. My lifelong dream is to be an attorney, and I am and have always been determined to finish goals. I had a horrid set back 10 yrs. ago that left me to conclude i would be on S.S.D.I. Well by gods grace i am healing and am also trying to get help to reenter college. I am fond of small colleges, I like the closeness and warmth, but also realized sometimes this makes problems with transfering credits. i am just ready to go back to college. after the tribulations i have been through, it will be an accomplishment that will finish my healing process.

My #1 college decision making factor is the school itself. Money will always be an issue because i don't have much ...but for me to be successful, the school has to be a good fit for my lifestyle (i.e. distance learning) and academic goals.

I agree with this website, I am coming from a working-class family that is fastly turning into a low-income family. I have applied sever scholarships and haven't won anything. I lived in city where I can go to school with less pay so it is very hard for me. And I am not the only one out there that's dealing with this. I see people on foodstamps with expensive cars and cellphones

I'm going back to school after being away for a couple of years. And I am so excited to get back on track to completing my education.

Both of you are right. I'm an older returning student and the way tuition is increasing every year, a person must look for other financial options that will NOT put a strain on them, family or their spouse, after graduation. I thought applying for scholarships would be easy also, WRONG!!! There is a big difference from when I dropped out 20+ years ago and now. I must admit that the education I'm receiving now is better equipped for me to obtain a job after graduation; with classes readying me about the advancement of technology, but that's still no guarantee. The only thing that any of us can do is keep applying and pray that sooner or later (hopefully not later) we will win a scholarship.

I agree with you Jojo, I am coming from a middle-class family that is fastly turning into a low-income family. I have applied to over 50 scholarships and haven't won anything. I live in such a small town too where I cannot get a job at all, so it is very hard for me. And I am not the only one out there that's dealing with this. I see people on foodstamps with expensive cars, cellphones and are getting into college easy.

It's unfortunate that most of incoming college students make one of the most important decisions of our lives based on money. Everyone tells us that there are millions in scholarships out there, but many deserving students will never win one. Where are these scholarships? What is it that we are doing wrong that we are not winning scholarships? Coming from a low income area, I see students from families with higher incomes winning scholarships.
