Whitney Jennings will be next Miss Basketball of Indiana. Not only has she had an incredible h.s. career, she will have the best college career of these candidates. Watch some of her videos on youtube. Her skill set is way above the rest. She has lead a small, rural, 4A team to semi-state. Her main competitor has a great supporting cast and therefore team expectations are way different.

In other news.. Maura Muensterman missed 7 games of her junior season and if she would've played in those lets imagine how high her assist total would be oh and she'd probably have just as many points. So... If MD just passed the ball to Maura every single time and no one else took a shot then Maura would average like 50 points a game while her team goes 0-24. This is why your logic makes no sense. Anybody can average alot of points and pad their stats. Maura chooses to care about the only stat that really matters which is WINNING. She does what her team needs her to do. Whether that is assists, rebounds, points, whatever. Her stats mean so much more when they are done at important times when her team needs her to make plays. A basket is only worth two points... but Maura's game winning shot in the state championship game her sophomore year was more valuable than any basket Jennings would ever dream of scoring.
So yes, individual stats matter (which Maura still holds the all-time assists record... again, more than you can say for Jennings) but team success is also relevant.

@Hoosier Fan, team stats DON'T belong in this award decision. Try this scenario: Put any of these girls on a team that finished 0-24 this past season and start the season over. They finish maybe 20-4 or 18-6. Does that mean that now they are not as good as they were on a 22-2 team? Of course not. What it means is they were surrounded by better players who complimented their skills. In any given year, it could be conceivable that the best player in the state could come from a sub .500 team. However, by using your logic, any time two teams play, the winning teams best player is better than the losing teams best player, period. Now, having said that, the winner of this award could be any of these girls, but it should be regardless of any state championships or team stats.

Great individual players lead to team success. So team success is very relevant in ranking individual players. And yes Logansport got blown out by Mater Dei last year and Maura individually scored FORTY points on Jennings. So lets talk stats... Maura has the most assists EVER in Indiana Girls Basketball History. That shows how well-rounded she is because of how great of a scorer she is. Maura cares about one stat... WINNING. You act like Maura's stats don't compare to Jennings when that is just false. If Maura doesn't win it will only be because Maura is from the southern part of the state which gets no media attention (since this is a media award). Jennings is a great player, do not get me wrong. Maura just advanced to her THIRD STRAIGHT state championship game while Jennings team was defeated at semi-state. Maura already has two rings and now going for her third. She has the all-time assists record while being a top scorer in the state every year. Maura torched Jennings last year when they played. Maura dropped 40 points on her and Jennings' team got blown out. Jennings has never been to a state championship game and Maura has a chance to win her THIRD state championship. Maura should be the next Miss Basketball... and it is not even close.

If her fans need to cheat by using an automated voting system, which is obvious they are, they are doing Maura a great injustice. I am significantly disappointed in the Logansport posters that were distasteful. I do beleive that it was all in fun andjust being sarcastic and trying to be funny. But they do go too far and are not representative of our wonderful community and school. Maura is, by everything I read and heard is an outstanding athlete, student and human being. Someone that we would be extremely proud of if she were from Logansport. I support Whitney for this award....and I do not want to detract from any other student athlete in my support. I believe that Whitney has proven this year that she should be Miss Basketball. To detract from others is really to detract from her accomplishments. Earning an award is not to diminish the competition, but to rise above. That is something that the Logansport "detractors" did NOT do....rise above. The fact is that the Miss Basketball award goes to the best overall player in the state of Indiana, not the best player on a great team, or where you commit to play college ball. The award goes to a single senior in Indiana not based on prior years or career stats, as is Illinois with Buss. When you take all of that into account, there is only one who deserves this award. Without taking anything away from Maura and her outstanding season and career, the award goes to Whitney Jennings.

@sooo Logansport doesn't need to use automated voting, there is strength in numbers. Evansville and Vanderburgh county is home to a quarter million people with like 12 high schools who are mostly all voting for maura. Its 250,000 people in case you were wondering its a lot more than 1200
Our principal came over the intercom and said something about the voting during the day, we have 1200 kids in our school and every one of them has a laptop, thats how we caught up fast. the only reason maura was ahead is because we didnt know the poll existed. for god sakes we spend like the first 4 periods every day trying to catch up. we honestly havent used one... but at least you guys admit it

I agree with Mick's comments. However, Maura received over 12,000 votes from 11 pm last night to 5:30 am this morning. If her fans need to cheat by using an automated voting system, which is obvious they are, they are doing Maura a great injustice. I don't know Maura, but I definitely know she and Whitney would be appalled at what they see happening with this poll between the comments and the cheating. Neither side of fans are representing their players very well to the Indianapolis Star and anyone else who is watching this poll. Good luck to both girls. This poll is no longer legitimate. It is obvious technology has taken over when Maura jumped 10000 votes and Whitney is staying close. This poll should of been taken down in 48 hours. What an accomplishment for these girls to be selected! Now the outcome of this doesn't matter. There is nothing to gain and all this for one vote.

I am significantly disappointed in the Logansport posters that were distasteful. I do beleive that it was all in fun andjust being sarcastic and trying to be funny. But they do go too far and are not representative of our wonderful community and school. Maura is, by everything I read and heard is an outstanding athlete, student and human being. Someone that we would be extremely proud of if she were from Logansport. I support Whitney for this award....and I do not want to detract from any other student athlete in my support. I believe that Whitney has proven this year that she should be Miss Basketball. To detract from others is really to detract from her accomplishments. Earning an award is not to diminish the competition, but to rise above. That is something that the Logansport "detractors" did NOT do....rise above. Please accept my apologies as a former Logansport High School graduate. These girls ALL HAVE EARNED AND DESERVE OUR RESPECT.
The fact is that the Miss Basketball award goes to the best overall player in the state of Indiana, not the best player on a great team, or where you commit to play college ball. The award goes to a single senior in Indiana not based on prior years or career stats, as is Illinois with Buss. When you take all of that into account, there is only one who deserves this award. Without taking anything away from Maura and her outstanding season and career, the award goes to Whitney Jennings.
I hope that you all realize that the only votes that count are all the indiana high school coaches. And the winner has already been leaked out. So stop wasting your time. Whitney Jennings won by a landslide.
