Should Charla Nash be allowed to sue the state?
Yes. The state knew the chimpanzee who mauled her was dangerous, but didn’t do anything about it.
No. The state does have a duty to protect the public, but can’t possibly prevent every tragedy caused by someone acting illegally, like keeping a chimp like a tame pet.
Yes. The state will take its responsibilities more seriously if it gets a financial rap on the knuckles like this.
No. The responsible party in this awful incident was the chimp’s owner, and Ms. Nash got $4 million from her estate. The state isn’t to blame.
