Yes. It was clear evidence that the death penalty is cruel and unusual punishment. He died not of the poison in his veins, but of a heart attack, after enduring agonizing pain.
No. This execution was clearly botched. But that doesn’t mean society should no longer impose capital punishment on the most heinous of criminals. This prisoner had watched the woman he shot be buried alive. He deserved the death penalty, though not done this way.
