After a spate of ugly language from local officials, how should we react to such hurtful, obnoxious and politically incorrect utterances?

Public officials, even at the most local level, should know better than to make personal attacks. If they can’t act like leaders, then they should step down.

People make mistakes but need to own up. Let them apologize, and perform some kind of community service or undergo sensitivity training so they know better.

Let it go. People are so sensitive these days.
