These are all excellent writers, but I have to give a special shout-out to sun-to-sirius and drinkbloodlikewine, for the way they are able to create beautiful, incendiary, erotic, scholarly works without ever resorting to stuffy or pretentious language. What appeals to me the most, aside from their impressive erudition and effortlessness with words is how emotional their work is. Sometimes, with really good writers, their writing becomes like music, they are able to create a flow, a certain tone or play a note that touches deep within us and we can't exactly explain why. That's how they work, like musicians. If you haven't read anything by them, give it a try, because it's not just about the story or the characters with them. IMO they really make art.

My vote goes to He Who Pours Out Vengeance. HWPOV is a fully realized, completely satisfying full-length novel. The portrayal of Will’s helplessness and frustration as he gradually realizes Hannibal’s crimes is wrenching and convincing. All the main characters are well done, and the comic minor characters who surround Will in his prison are absolutely delightful. This author can bring a character to life in a few lines. And besides great characters, this fiction has great plot. The chapter in which two beloved characters take separate paths to capture Hannibal and one of them dies is a masterpiece of cleverness and suspense. This is the best piece of fiction I’ve read in a long time.

In my opinion DarkmoonSigel has written some of the most amazing stories to reach the Hannibal fanfiction society. Her multiple chapter stories ranging in all forms of AU's and canon storyline pull in readers of all varying taste and preference and even encourage them to try new genre's they may have previously disliked. I personally had abandoned all fanfiction writing for nearly eight years and was pulled back into it and encouraged to try again after reading a number of her stories.

Through DarkmoonSigel's works I have began experimenting with plot lines I previously never would have considered, 'The Hermit and The Wendigo King' just one of many amazing stories and particularly the one to open me up to the experimentation of different AU's.

She is an encouraging author and phenomenal writer and deserves to be fully recognized for everything that she has contributed to the fanfiction society. She'll be going on hiatus soon to work on her own story, one I know will be a success, and despite that it has cut into the time she had hoped to spend on her own book she has been pushing herself to finish all of her stories so that the readers who have come to love her will not be forced to suffer loose ends and unfinished works.

Her writing moves those who read it, I have been brought to tears as often as I have spilled my coffee laughing. Her creativity is as endless as the stars and she doesn't mind turning one shots into multi-chapters and take away from her own time if her readers are just so eager for more.

It is in my opinion that DarkmoonSigel should win the award for best fanfiction.

There are many excellent fanfiction done by some of the authors nominated, but there is really one ONE masterpiece: "He Who Pours Out Vengence" by After-The-Ellypsis.

From plotting to characterization to clear concise prose, this work is magnificent and without parallel in the entire Hannibal fandom. It is certainly one of the best pieces of writing I have read in the last few years, and that is includes professional paid works. In fact in many ways, this now AU version of Hannibal Season Two, surpasses what Bryan Fuller and the other Hannibal writers presented on screen.

My dream would be that somehow the writer's work could be brought to the attention of the Hannibal writing or production team, and she be asked to contribute and make the show reach its best potential. Absent that wistful dream, I hope the entire fandom itself recognizes and praises her masterful talent!
