I don't like to suffer through the wait for for the next book in a series, so I was going to wait until all the books were written before reading. But then I heard that they were making the series, so I decided to read the first book, thinking I would wait until after the series aired to read the next book. But, um, I couldn't wait and have read all the books, um, 3 times now (MOBY twice).

I found the Outlander series on a book list entitled, "Romance Novels That Don't Suck." Outlander certainly took over my life and i was into the series in no time. I have just recently discovered the books, so I read the whole series and didn't have to wait and read MOBY as thoroughly as possible, knowing that there was (sigh) no next book this time. I am going for the second read through the whole series now that I am done. I am just not ready to leave Claire and Jamie and company and Scotland and America and etc. Love all of it!

Stayed up most nights til 3 or 4am to finish and now that I've finished I'm hoping it won't be 3 or 4 years before we have the next installment to see what happens to everyone... this is the best book since Outlander! It feels as though I am reading about family - I worry for all of them.

"Outlander" was on a recommended reading list on Amazon for Fantasy/Science Fiction. I am constantly searching for exciting adventure stories to capture my imagination and transport me to another world. I was more than transported when I read "Outlander" I was swept away........Completely. Dove wholeheartedly into the series and now am a giant FAN. I scour the internet for all things "Outlander" and can NOT wait until the series on Starz comes out. Here's something I NEVER thought I would say.........Diana gave me a whole new appreciation for the men in my life. Let me make it perfectly clear........I am NOT a romance reader. Not EVER. Flat not interested.....until HIMSELF was introduced to me. Suffice it to say my whole family is going Scottish Highlander for Halloween this year! We are learning the Highland fling and the Bodhran! OH YEAH!

I was struggling through the first painful and crippling symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis in early 1994, a condition that had just robbed an exciting and promising new mid-life career path/grad school program. I took an agonizing trip to the local library in search of the thickest book I could find - anything to distract me from the present reality. I found Outlander. It looked and sounded from the blurb like a rather silly bodice-ripper, but I was desperate for distraction. Within a few pages I knew there was a brain and a genuine storyteller behind this tale and I was off and running. Gabaldon's story gave me a magical world with a cast of awesome characters to escape to when the pain denied me sleep and the diagnoses were frighteningly vague and uncertain. I read Outlander and reread it and read it again and again, not yet knowing there were sequels (which I discovered fairly quickly!). Fast forward twenty years: my condition is under control although I've long since retired. I finished Written in my Own Heart's Blood four days ago and was nearly as enamoured of this installment as I was with the original. It was enough to spur me to pick up Outlander and begin yet another rereading of the whole series. All because I was searching for the fattest book on the fiction shelf to help save me from one of the most challenging periods of my life! Thanks Diana Gabaldon for sharing your fiction-writing "practice" with all of us!
