As Scarsdale is learning, property tax reassessment doesn't hit all properties evenly. Is it the right thing to do?

In Sunday's article, a homeowner complains about her $11+ million assessment while trying to sell her property for $16.5 million. Why? If she gets her asking price her assessment should be $16.5 not $11!
Having said that, maybe the fairest method would be based on one rate for land area and an additional charge for square footage, without bothering with all the other "factors" - if you want to live in a 2,000 sq ft barn that's your business, but you'll pay the same rate as your neighbor in the fancy colonial.
