Gelato: hands down. The texture and the intensity of the flavors cannot be matched with ice cream. If you are going to invest that many calories, opt for Italian gelato. In between trips to Italy, Talenti makes a very respectable "over the counter" gelato which is available in supermarkets. Their sorbet is to die for as well.

It's so true that the gelato made in the US doesn't hold a spoon to that made in Italy. Having said that, my husband and I enjoyed wonderful gelato in a shop in the small town of Placentia, Belize. It was run by an Italian couple. Every day of our vacation, we made at least 1 stop at the store, Tutti Fruitti. It was like being in Italy! YUM!

Ice cream is nice. Really good gelato is heaven! Thank goodness for Italian immigrants in South America as Chile and Argentina have wonderful fruit flavored gelato. In Italy, ones using ingredients from the South like the Sicilian almonds or lemon or blood orange elevate it to true art.
