ARRA and ACA, not passed by GWB, have unfortunately involved government in healthcare to a much greater degree than before. After the VA issues came to light, I'm not sure you will find many logical thinkers that would agree that what we need is MORE government intervention between healthcare providers and patients. GWB as a speaker may provide a view of how gov/regulators see the role of IT in healthcare into the future.

There are two sides to every story. Bush did a very good job in some respects as it relates to bringing the country together after 9/11 and being very decisive in his actions. I find it funny that we have two years of democrats and now that HIMSS brings in a republican the liberals begin to bash. Leaders have important things to say that not everyone agrees with but without being open minded people will only learn one side. Listening is a skill that is not very well developed in todays society.

Not a good idea to rning politics into what has been for a lot of years a non-political neutral site. To speak negatively against a former President defies what I have seen as almost the mission of this site. The biggest between GW and the current President is that one loves this country and the other does not. One worked to defend us and our country, the other does not...you figure out who is who!

I appreciate the opportunity to meet a former president, but see how it's already politically divisive? Cringe. Personal political leanings aside, I'm wondering how they tie healthcare into “thoughts on eight years in the Oval Office, the challenges facing our nation in the 21st century, the power of freedom, the role of faith and other pressing issues.”

That was a completely biased comment. While not thrilled with 43, he did authorize ONC (then ONCHIT), which has proven to be a real stroke of brilliance and compared to 44 and the disastrous HIX rollout ($2b on a still non-functional website), not to mention the abysmal uptake on 44care (7m total after a year) and even if it did function perfectly OMB still said 15m people would not be covered out of the then 30m uninsured, so the middle class pays more on a monthly basis with higher deductibles for the benefit of 5% of the population? Noble idea, but inane.

I believe it will be a long awated for brake from the " buy one get one free" lul that the Clintons have created and if nothing else HIMSS may earn some respect for political impartiality...Imagine everyone's surprise if instead of Chelsea we get G.W.Bush and his " enfant terrible " relative Jonathan Bush sharing the stage... Aah the entertainement. Who knows I may even buy tickets to that one even though I swore never to return to HIMSS!!!

I just read a negative comment about President George W. Bush having no legacy?? Are they kidding? After 6 years of a complete mess what do we have now? Are we better off 6 years later?

He has a right to speak and should be respected.
