We already pay for water in taxation 3 times over. Irish water is just another step to screw the people out of money and keep jobs for the "boys". The government need to learn that we won't take this anymore, they work for the people and don't rule the people!
Brian - 11 years ago
We pay for water already through 3 forms of tax which include road tax and vat which went up in 1996 to cover the rest of the cost of water. I don't see the government dropping the cost of VAT and road tax since they want us to pay water charges to a private company. Gangsters pushed to much now we standing up we will not pay!
Brian - 11 years ago
We already pay! Also newstalk is owed by Denis OBrien. So this.poll is pro water charges!
paul - 11 years ago

Joxer king - 11 years ago
Your language used in the intro to your poll could not be more pro water charges in it's direction if you tried! Is it "normal" to deny people the right to access to water as is happening in detroit at present! May I suggest that you may as well ask people for their PPS numbers when leaving their comments so you can pass on to Irish water your bias is so shamefully transparent! You should be mortified to call your selves an independent news service! You wouldn't see coverage of the likes in a military coup in south America

we already pay for water through our taxes
The set up costs of irish water are a complete joke at this stage they have no control over the monster they set up.
They rushed through the bill in 3 hours without regard for cost.
the money they spent on this could have spent on fixing the network to bring it up to scratch.
So no i wont be paying again
This is nothing to do with conservation its just another tax on over streached families

james heavey - 11 years ago
We pay already, why is this not an option on poll, are you purposly hiding this fact
Da Dell - 11 years ago
I believe that we should pay for water, it is more fair that way that just out of the normal tax take as that really only hits working people paying tax . However I will not pay a cent to the new FG Quango called Irish Water, with 5000 staff and supposedly 2500 of them with no work to do and to be phased out over a number of years, that is headed by John Tierney as a reward for his previous failures a typical example of FG failed election reform promises. It makes me sick to see the size of the salaries in this so company and the bonus, this is what is totally wrong in all our public services and government, getting bonuses and rewards for failing. Bonuses in Irish water should only exist against a target of % of repairs to the infrastructure and improvement in water quality, but alas not and like parts of our civil services they get a bonus for turning up for work, is that not what their gross 90k salaries are for.
Gary - 11 years ago
We already pay through vat and motortax, and leaving that option out of the poll doesn't change that fact!
eric nolan - 11 years ago

Where is the 5th option. No, we already pay for Clean Water!
I am delighted that the Government took the step to introduce Irish Water. It's the one thing that might unite us all again after years of them trying to drive us apart. Public/Private etc etc.
Shauna McKinley - 11 years ago
We already pay for our water through car tax, VAT, household tax, household charge. Why should we have to pay a 4th/5th time?? ESP to a privite company that WILL be sold of to the highest bidder then we will b charged what ever the hell they want... I for 1 will NOT be paying for my water again they can shove there water meter where the sun don't shine....
Nikki - 11 years ago
We are like other countries we do already pay for our water. That's the problem the government don't seem to realise that the Irish people are sick of footing the bill for government mistakes. Also since we already pay for water which almost half is wasted through leaks the government have refused to fix with the money we already pay why on earth should we pay twice??? If this goes ahead it will only lead to more serious social issues like poverty stricken families being left with ni water once allowances are gone in 2016.
James - 11 years ago
No way. We pay through tax for the water and paye. The governments just looking to balance it's crooked books by screwing the little guy. Come November 1st god help rhem
Paul - 11 years ago
We already pay more than anywhere else in the world for water, 1.7billion this year, so €1300 per lived in home.
Gerald Colan-O'Leary - 11 years ago
We already pay for the water so the pole is flawed. It needs to explain that we do already pay.
paul boland - 11 years ago

Colie971 - 11 years ago
Typical O'Brien propaganda trying to insinuate we don't pay for water all ready. You and your ilk will not play the people of this country for fools any longer. Roll on the first when we will bring you to your knees.
Jim - 11 years ago
All the people asking for the option of we pay already through general tax obviously don't understand the option "Yes, but not through Irish Water's charging system".
Noreen Duggan - 11 years ago
Where is the option to say we already pay for water through our taxation system. Continuing the lie that the Irish don't pay for water is just not good enough.

we already pay for water through vat and motor tax. 1.2 billion per annum. where is the option to say we pay already.
Donal McLoughlin - 11 years ago
I have many issues with Irish Water, none to do with actually paying for the commodity.
1/ As has been widely reported, I fear this company is going to be sold, and along with it, our independent water supply. I will not support any organisation that could be privatised in the future.
2/ What do we get for our money? The Germans get piped cold and hot water into to their homes. We get cold water only. We need a view of the future plans of Irish Water.
3/ Our water delivery network is not fit for purpose. I'm astonished that there doesn't appear to be a strategy for improving infrastructure and repairing leaks.
If I saw a plan for how our fees would improve water supply in Ireland and had assurances that this company could never be privatised, then I would pay my dues

People should not have to pay to wash themselves, cook their food or flush their toilets. Water for these purposes should be free. I have no issue paying for any other use of water.
