Madison is home to ICD-10 Illustrated, a great book. And it claims more restaurants per capita than anywhere in the US. Wait, what was this poll for again?
Georgia leads the nation with more than 225 HIT companies, eight of which have cumulative revenues of close to $5 billion.
HIT depends on a robust IT industry, and Georgia delivers! Metro Atlanta ranks in the top five U.S. markets for total bandwidth and fiber access and two of the country’s largest fiber routes – North/South and East/West – cross in metro Atlanta.
Just a few of the business advantages of Georgia:
- Georgia’s six percent corporate income tax applies only to income earned in Georgia
- Payroll withholding exemption (eligibility thresholds apply)
- Local property tax relief for qualified land, building and equipment
- Sales Tax Exemption on qualified computer hardware and software
Atlanta is a very affordable place to live, play, and work. Outside of the usual Georgia Tech, Emory, GSU, there's also great marketing resources to be had from UGA. Our team has really benefited from a team of local entrepreneurs who fully embody the "Pay it forward" mentality, offering resources, time, and connections without any expectation of return. Sure there are sports rivalries, but in business I have found that people generally enjoy helping each other and working together. #WeLoveATL
I vote for Atlanta as the Healthcare IT Capital of the US. The combination of Grady, Emory, Northside & other leading hospitals; Morehouse Medical College, Georgia Tech and Emory University; as well as the presence of CDC and a major presence in medical device industry makes Atlanta a top contender for this rank. Despite setbacks, let us "Reinvent, Rebuild & Reboot America" :-)

Atlanta has "true" Health IT roots, in fact a HIMSS was created at Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) in 1961. More patents in the Health IT space coming from ATL universities than any other MSA
There are well over 200 Health IT companies with nearly 30,000 jobs and rapidly climbing.

Atlanta is strong in the Health Care IT space and now in Fin Tech as well, with the World Pay relocation. These are natural matches. And, oh yes, the CDC and Georgia Tech are here too.
I have been traveling to Madison for last 5 years; working with a formidible academic healthcare organization. My guess would be that the scew to Madison as the leader is mainly driven by Epic having their headquarters in Madison and many consulting companies circling Epic.

Seems to me there's a little padding of the results to skew to WI here.

Where is San Francisco and the Bay Area on this list? While it may not be the home of the current IT giants, it is where a lot of new companies are starting. There's a lot of innovation in HIT coming out of the Bay Area with both software and medical devices.

If it's based on revenue, Boston is undisputedly first and growing. Tally up the Health Infomatics Top 100 list. Also check out Mass eHealth Institute.

Nashville has Emdeon, Experian Health, MModal, HCA, and MANY others. It is Nashville's largest growing job sector.
Where state government, university, healthcare, and private EHR companies meet... Madison is the perfect mix of opportunity and energy.
