Yes, I understand the aggravation people feel when the deer eat some green leaves they need to survive, or cause an accident on the highway because someone is driving too fast.. but on a broader scale, they have as much right to be here as we do as far as I know. The idea of killing another living thing in order for you to be happy seems to be somewhat ingrained.. the terrorists kill people who speak or write against their beliefs .. or just because they don't want them here. Isn't there another way to live peacefully together?

Again, haven't they learned anything about contraception in the intervening years between culls? I for one would remove all their funding for campus projects until they educate themselves about preserving wildlife. Put up a huge fence around the college and the farm and be done with it. Keep everything out.

Vassar College does not own the wildlife in Poughkeepsie. The private college's arrogance in repeatedly destroying our area's wildlife, with no meaningful involvement or oversight by the public, or any public entity, is shocking. I have read all of the college's "studies" underlying their ongoing killing spree. They have presented no basis for such a violent enterprise in the midst of the residential neighborhoods that surround Vassar Farm. To wit: Vassar Farm is not a 'forest'; the college has never presented specific evidence of deer-caused traffic accidents; and it refuses to consider any alternative to killing, such as putting up some fences. The NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, which is primarily a hunting management agency, has seemingly been blinded by the halo effect that emanates from Ivy League institutions, and did not require the college to carry out an Environmental Impact Statement. Indeed, there is a pending lawsuit against the State, in which I am a plaintiff, arguing that state law is violated when Vassar is allowed to wipe out the local deer population, when such an in-depth study has been required by the State in every other bait-and-shoot plan. Neither has the Town of Poughkeepsie stood up to Vassar, as the City has, to enforce its own laws that explicitly prohibit shooting off hunting rifles in residential neighborhoods.

Let people who LOVE deer like Gail Laffin pool their money and pay for all the car an landscaping damage these deer do. You can't even plant stuff in your yard without covering it up with plastic mesh. ADAMSTOWN and other plant sellers love them. Kenk

Deer in duchess county are completely out of control. I live in town of clinton for 56 years same location and years ago it was a thrill to see a deer and now they are like big rats eating every thing in sight and the state has the NERVE to charge $10 each for doe permits in addition To regular lic.fees. They should give doe permits FREE with a lic. Fee. I don't even go out driving at nite for fear of hitting a deer and causing damage to my car. They are a very real hazard. Kill some more and donate the meat. Ken

Shame on you Vassar, I have been involved in protesting since the first cull! Look for other ways and I am sure you can find them, you take the wrong approach, we will be out protesting again, you can count on it! It is every two years now!

The more deer they cull is one less deer that could potentially cause a vehicular accident.
