for gods sake leave us alone ! This over policed big brother "for your own good" nonsense has to stop. You people are ruining the few good things about living in the north with more and more restrictive and petty rules. Our grand fathers would laugh at us be bewildered by our rush to be regulated and fenced in. Let people decide for themselves stop trying to save everyone and mind your own business.

please give me the freedom to use my common sense and put my lifejacket on when conditions dictate. Giving me a ticket on a warm day when I'm out in my canoe paddling on calm water because I'm kneeling on my lifejacket instead of wearing it would be a travesty. More laws won't stop people doing stupid things on the water. Let's not legislate for the lowest common denominator.

As in the case of most accidents, boating mishaps can occur in an instant - I know this from personal experience! The thought that, "I'll grab my lifejacket as I'm heading overboard" is kind of like thinking, "I'll snap on my seatbelt just before that oncoming car slams into mine". If you are lucky enough to find a lifejacket once you land in the water and after you get your bearings, try putting it on while you also try to prevent yourself from drowning. Those inflatable PFD's may seem a bit pricey but you hardly know you have it on; besides, my life is worth more than a couple of hundred dollars. PFD's do not guarantee survival but they sure help. I always say that so long as I am wearing my PFD and should I succumb to hypothermia, etc atleast someone will not have to risk their life diving for my body - grim but true!
