Do you think a ban on putting garbage out the night before will keep bears away?

I guess our counsellors think that the bears are all asleep by 5:00 am in the morning. Not everyone can get up out early in the morning to put out their garbage, Some people that are on home dialysis for 8 to 10 hours that are hooked to a cycler in bed all night long, then there are other people that have other medical issues. How are these people going to put their garbage early in the morning? When they can't even get out of bed?

I am a senior with ostioarthritis, there are times i can't walk. By nov.30th it will be snowy, slippery who knows what weather wise. Now the city wants me to drag my garbage out early in the morning,in the dark in wintery weather or i'll get fined.? Give me a break, If i slip and fall i guess i can sue the city. If i can't manage to get my garbage out i guess the city will send someone to bring it to the dump..or maybe i don't have to pay taxes anymore and can deduct the garbage portion.I guess i'll go to jail as i don't have money to pay the garbage fines. At lease i;ll get free meals, cable tv, thank you. diane

I guess I'll be leaving my garbage on the front step of our counsel before I go to work.
Seeing I leave for work around 3:30 AM and they can put my garbage out.
You guys are so full yourself passing bylaws left and right get a grip…

What about folks who leave for work prior to 5 am? Will I be considered a criminal for putting my garbage to the road before going to work???

Instead of curb side garbage times, open up green bin dump sites scattered around the area of Sudbury. Years ago each community had their own dump sites. In the summer, it was interesting to go the dump and see the bears and other creatures feast. That process kept the wild life out of the residential areas. No need to come around neighbourhoods looking for food. Yes it might cost more to do the green bin pickup by itself, but, it would save alot of the cost used on bear calls.

What a joke! - I can't believe the amount of time & money we are wasting on this topic.

I remember back in the late eighties when we had a spring bear hunt, we had a huge amount of hunters (many from out of the country) that came to Northern Ontario, spent big bucks in our province, millions of dollars came into the system and we didn't seem to have any bear problems? This was an economic benefit to the whole province.

My how times have changed - here we are now, with no revenue coming into the province and we having to spend millions of dollars to try to resolve the bear issue, that at one time didn't seem to be a problem?

With all the different levels of government crying poor, we cannot afford anything anymore, why are we going down this road?

Bring back the spring bear hunt provincially.

As a side note, several years from now we'll be complaining of the moose in the same manner, now that the MNR has completely decimated the moose hunt, many of us are quitting the hunt. There will be way less revenue coming into the coffers (the government will be forced to try to find different ways to recoup the lost revenue - likely in tax hikes) and more animals walking around - It will serve you well!

An impractical solution which will have little to no effect on transiant bears.
All the bears Ive seen im my community are there on the days other than garbage collection days.
    Council has no clue how
    To deal with the issue.
The other problem is if in my case the garbage is not out the night before it likely wont get collected as the trucks collecting go by so early.
Will they be sending a truck by in the afternoon to collect if people miss the initial run because they cant put it out the night before?
