You people do not get it. Eddie said he wanted to run the government like a business. And i feel he has proved that the challenges in front of him can be dealt with. His cabinet workers have served him well by putting in their effort and succeeded in acomplishing their due dillengence. I feel the so called REWARDS was justifiable for hard work. It goes to show that he runs the government like his business in the same way. I myself would like to work for Calvo's Enterprise and receive that kind of REWARDS.

  • tafu - 8 years ago

Calvo, do you forget that you have businesses on the island. Please look at the need of the people of Guam as well as the migrants from the FAS. Please don't raise your salary but sacrifies and give the money to the poor.

The PDN poll is rigged as usual by the Calvo puppets, but you can see clearly by the comments below how the people really feel.

They are plain thieves and should return the money to the people of Guam

Them two greedy-racist bastardos. They don't deserve a pay raise. What they deserve is a high five in the face with a chair.

  • RJ - 8 years ago

In this island mostly people are known each other that why the corruption never end. It is pretty sad young people are moving out in this place.

  • Na'Mauleg Guahan - 8 years ago

A good government leader doesn't give himself a raise when government agencies under his charge is plagued with budget problems. I have yet to see prudent prioritized spending. The nice-to-have spendings seem to take priority over critical need-to-have ones.

Funny but biggest crook was CG but nobody complained!!

  • Me myself and i - 8 years ago

This is a bunch of crock. All of Guam knows that this poll was rigged by all the CALVO/TENORIO paid assistants.

@ TIC- I agree with you. The raises to the cabinet members are justifiable given the position the government is in and how much work they have to do. It is pretty simple actually, would these individuals who qualify for a better paying job in the private sector be enticed to join the government under such a low pay? No they wouldn't. And in that case we get corrupt directors or directors that have no clue what to do. That is exactly why we are in this mess in the first place.

Now the way this pay raise was handled was inappropriate for one but part of these raises are justifiable. Lets not get that wrong. Senators DO NOT deserve the raise nor do the mayors at that rate. The problem with this pay raise was the simple fact that it should be done on an incremental basis rather than $40k up front. That for one is an individuals salary. At the end of the day all of us are accountable because these are ELECTED OFFICIALS. We voted for them so it is on us to fix this.

    HELL NO!

STOP STEALING FROM THE PEOPLE OF GUAM!

  • Schneip Polak - 8 years ago

The sneakiest pay raise has to be in the are of Human Resource jobs. Has anyone seen how these jerks manipulated the Hay Group to get their salaries up well beyond tenured teachers, high ranking police men or women, and as high as administrators? Ridiculous.

  • TIC - 8 years ago

Why anyone would want to be a director in a line agency in government is beyond me. Look at the crap they have to deal with from the legislature hacking their budget to bare bones and then having the civil service disable and reverse their decisions against non producing, lazy or corrupt employees only to have to bring them back. $55,000 isn't worth it.

  • Jojo - 8 years ago

It's not so much 'getting the raise' but the underhanded way it was processed and the huge amount. I guess this being their last term in office - why not stuff their pockets to the fullest right??? Never mind the public schools and the public roads that need fixing (not important to our elected officials) just more excuses about lack of funds. Yet it's ok to get a pay raise in an amount that could cover a clerk's salary for an entire year!! What about that elected officials?? Goes to show who comes first and foremost for 'our leaders'. This definitely doesn't apply to Senators San Nicolas and McCreadie, who represent us the voters of Guam. Still have the names of the senators who pushed for this pay raise - not getting my vote for sure. Fortunately for Calvo and Tenorio this is their last term otherwise don't think they'll make it for another term. Hope Tenorio isn't aiming for the higher office cause don't think he'll make it after this mess.....

RJ, hahaha... you're so funny to compare Governor Calvo to California's former mayor Arnold* S. First of all, Arnold Schwarzenegger is pretty rich, considering he's a freaking actor. LOL. Funny comment. And he, alone, doesn't even own the businesses. It's his whole family.

And I agree with Roque A. They should keep their raises. They've done quite a good job compared to the past officials who held this position!! They deserve the raises, unlike those undeserving senators.

  • just1 - 8 years ago

As usual another rigged poll. If its this far off, you can count that the truth it is opposite of what you see in the poll.

  • Buenas - 8 years ago

What justifies their pay raise to begin with, their salary should be set and be exempt from any increases. The ones that work hard are the government employees which are referred to as the 'Indians" and the Gov and Lt.Gov are the chiefs. The chiefs do not need a raise every year or two years. Give it to the Indians!

  • Observer - 8 years ago

    1. Not all elected officials should be given this pay raise. Legislators that have been there for over 20 years need to relinquish there hold and lead other qualified individuals to sit on there seats. It has been a long time coming but Guam needs new officials and not the same old senators. Nothing ever changes because they have become complacent and are not held accountable for there actions, since they know they will be voted in again the following year. The raise that legislators received equals that of California, how does that even make any sense?

    2. As a governor and lieutenant governor, the positions they held have long been criticized. These individuals have done a better job than previous administrations and their raise is justifiable given the amount of work they have to do.

    3. Yes, GovGuam is corrupt but the only way change is going to happen is if we stop complaining about it and doing something about it. Hold your coworkers accountable for what they do. Do not let is slide any longer. Why do we joke around about smoke breaks, long lunches, doing minimal work, etc.? We are better than that. Lets change it.

  • Islander 2 - 8 years ago

Absolutely Not ! Tenerio is the one responsible for all this financial trouble ! He is the one who pushed for pay raises and our Governor quietly egged him on , now Gov Guam doesn't have any funds to complete anything but the museum and their pay check , oh I forgot " Festpac" . Recind all Gov Guam Pay Raise's ! We now have to raise the debt limit over half a billion dollars , how are we going to pay for it ? If we can't pay down our debt now what makes the legislature and our Governor think we can pay for half a billion dollars more ? How stoooopid are these people ? Greedy and very selfish for our government officials to think they deserve their pay raise ! RECIND ALL GOV GUAM PAY RAISE'S !

  • JC - 8 years ago

The pay is for the position. Stop focusing on the people in office now because they won't be there forever. An attractive salary is necessary if you want to attract the most qualified persons for the job. Add up the amount of all raises given each position and the total still won't make a dent in our economy, but it will make a difference in the quality of people running for office. How many would leave a good paying job or take time away from their business to deal with GovGuam BS, for chump change. Also, those raises are taxable income so you do the math. As far as the mayors are concerned, they may have run knowing what the pay was, but that doesn't make it ok to cheat them by expecting them to work almost 80 hrs a week and be on call. Those hours pretty much cuts their salary in half if they were your typical 40 hr worker. Most of you would be demanding OT for every hour you worked over 40. It's a position that demands more time than most people are willing to give, for chump change. Stop hating and think objectively about what the benefits of higher pay would be. The pay study recommendations were calculated by those who know what they are doing.

Ha ha! These comments crack me up. Look at all the empty cans making noise now till election time. They're either trying to stay in office, grab more power, or take down the others who are silently working productively to move Guam forward. I'm talking about the legislature of course and perhaps a few who want to take a shot at the mayors too. Aguon will be runnign for Gov in '18, San Nicolas wants a shot at #2 or ?, and on the bottom half buying time is McCreadie, respicio, Muna-Barnes, BJ, and Blas Jr.

  • Bud Wiser - 8 years ago

Buckle up Guam. It's election season and McCreadie wants to stay in after almost being voted out while San Nicolas can't get enough love even at the expense of outing his democrap friends who are more openly greedy than himself.

  • Tito - 8 years ago

Everyday frontline gov of guam workers who aren't being held accountable is the problem from where I sit. I know of so many who take off whenever they want without a care about work. They the minimum amount of paperwork they can, do special favors for their bosses, and then get away practically with murder. Inefficient self serving and lazy gov of guam workers are where our tax moneys are being wasted. Maybe not in every department but sure as heck very many. How do I know? Since before ever since I woefully left the private sector after 10 years and started work in gov of guam 5 years ago. It's not just an inside joke anymore afterall. Ask any family member who's friend or family works in gov of guam.

  • FIXED - 8 years ago

Really?...We all know this is a fixed poll because MANY were given instructions to take the poll and vote YES. Wow!...Like one Senator said, if they took the job with these responsibilities in the first place, know full well what they are, why the pay raise? Schools need fixing, DOC needs fixing, other GovGuam Agencies need resources....Why now?

  • Max - 8 years ago

Cool your jets people. What this island needs is to improve it's economic base and drivers. The people of Guam, their involvement and active participation in their children's education, and skills that improve the services and products offered to tourists, military, and others is key. Why is it that more than 500 kids never finish highschool on Guam? Add that up over the years along with the uneducated or unskilled migrant population and you will see why the economy is more bankrupt and a bust. Good help is hard to find and even worse, skilled and self motivated help is even rarer. Ask any employer or hiring agency about the number of applicants who can barely fill out their applications let alone have the most basic and fundamental skills. This teacher, Andri Baynum, and others in his group need to account for why the education system they run along with Fernandez is not holding their own accountable to academic standards. Parents and supposed tax payers are just as culpable in all of this, when they blindly trust the "passing grades" some of the public school teachers are handing out like candy. Proof is in the pudding when all you have to do is look at the graduation, dropout, and then placement tests at UOG and GCC. When our most basic foundation, the educational skills and abilities, of high school graduates are "allowed" a diploma without having proved they earned it, is it any wonder why our economy can't support its needs? SNAP, TANF, and other known welfare programs are proof enough also. (MicDrop)*

  • Roque A - 8 years ago

They are the chief executives are they not? Righting the wrongs of the past and present. They've acted more responsibly than any other Governor before them have they not? IMHO they and their Director's have shown more fiscal responsibility than those in the last two administrations. Let them keep their raises. Pot fobot!

  • RJ - 8 years ago

Gov. Calvo most of the island business own by family. How about donate your salary to homeless people like former California governor Arnord.

  • Again and again - 8 years ago

True leaders lead by example. They did good on the first term now it's like all the rest lets suck what we can before we leave.

  • CHAN - 8 years ago

Hey, Mr Calvo, look at the constantly growing debt of Guam gov.
The sneaky pay raise must be repealed for the future of Guam.
Are you guys above the ordinary people of Guam?
