Epic has done incredibly well in the workflow space backed by a strong infrastructure and product governance. Yet they persist in thinking that a 16-18,000 table relational data base or an entry into "population health" or data warehouse space will bring them fame. If they really wanted to leave their mark they would stay focused on workflow, build it for provider satisfaction and make sure the semantics of regulatory requirements took place on the back end instead of at the point of care. We hear only about their culture and huge market share, not so much about any specific health status improvements as a result of sole sourcing solutions. They should take their lead from customers like Scripps, Yale or Geisinger.
