Trey Wardlaw was a state finalist in a very tough weight class. Trey seeked out better competition this year and gave up a few losses. He obviously learned greatly from those losses and that is why he peaked at the time that counts the most. Losing matches will only make you a better wrestler and that is what Trey did. He lost a tough sectional final, got a wild card, was unseeded, he beat Lopez in the semis which was a sweet revenge win for him. In order to get to the finals Trey had to beat everyone no matter where they were seeded and that he did. He wrestled his best and left it all on the mat in the state finals to the number 1 wrestler in the nation. Trey Wardlaw ended his high school wrestling career a true champion. He was a NYS Finalist! The life lessons he learned along the way because of wrestling because of his coaches is his biggest accomplishment... Trey Wardlaw deserves Rockland County Wrestler of the Year!

    Vince,

I just want to make a couple points for you to consider.

At the state tournament, Trey Wardlaw came in unseeded. On his path the finals he beat consecutively the 5th, 3rd, and 4th place finishers in his bracket, probably the toughest draw of any section 1 wrestler to make the podium. The point I want to though is that in the finals he wrestled THE NUMBER 1 WRESTLER IN THE COUNTRY at his weight, and did not even give up a major decision. Trey is the only wrestler Busiello did not pin or tech at his weight class this season. And he and trey wrestled twice this season... Not to mention that Busiello's bloody nose saved him from being taken down in the third...

Yes he did have a rocky start to the season, but wrestling is a peaking sport. I don't think any wrestler above peaked as well as trey did and for that I believe is deserving of Wrestler of the Year.

All of these young men are excellent wrestlers, we can make a case for any of them. But to go the furthest and lose only to the #1 ranked wrestler in the country gets my vote. Trey Wardlaw, only wrestler to wrestle in a state final from this group has to be the winner.

Jake Spreckman deserves to be wrestler of the year. Jake is a great guy on and off the mat anyone who knows him will tell you that. I know all the wrestlers work hard but Jake took it to the extreme. He sacrificed so much to train, he also like stated moved up from his weight class which was a huge challenge and he excelled he proved himself. County Champ! 4th place in states. Not many kids can do that, go from 195 to 220 and win. Like I said I am proud of all these wrestlers and their accomplishments that's what makes it so hard. Good luck to all wrestlers in the running.
