Other states are wising up and requiring Welfare recipients to work to earn their assistance. That is where as much government project work should come from instead of spending over stretched and abused tax dollars. Stealing from the Jail system is a bit ironic when it comes to funding play time at FestPac.
Prisoners lost their liberties but they are not sentenced as slaves. What's next? greedy private corporation buys the prison for profit and capitalize on them for their cheap labor. It's been happening in the mainland.
What's worse, many of them has mental illness who does not belong in prison but in mental asylums. The system has made prisons the new mental asylum.
ALL WAS NEEDED TO BE DONE WAS PUT THE HAVE WAY HOUSE INMATES/ TRUSTED INMATES TO WORK ON THE HUTS.
Why not use DOC inmates to assist in building huts, clean up and similar tasks? Some inmates are already being used for village road side clean up, plus guards will be there as well. In the end, DOC's cries for short staff and overtime could be justified.
