My concern as the federal govt. becomes deeper and deeper involved in healthcare, is political ideology dictates current administration using the information against the citizen. How long before a govt entity can see that you were prescribed Xanax while dealing with a difficult divorce and then prevents you from exercising your 2nd Amendment rights based on the false assumption that you are a danger to someone due to a Xanax prescription. I'm much less worried about an individual or corporation getting my info. This is just an example.

THIS GOES FOR BOTH PARTIES AND ANY ADMINISTRATION.

I agree with Randy Thomas as stated previously.

If we as a society get just get past the idea that people choose to be depressed or that people that seek help are somehow weak, it would make it much easier for people that are suffering to get help.

I've been treated for depression, my kids have too. Thankfully due to my openness my kids were able to get help. Depression and mental needs to be treated more along the lines of cancer. If you can get help before it progresses too far, treatment can be easier and perhaps quicker. If you wait too long it can be a death sentence.

There are risks with every piece of data that leaves you.

There are numerous reports of records being reviewed by hospital personnel, including clinicians, who have no medical reason to view charts. I believe that the banking and financial industry is further along in this regard and I also believe that financial guidelines for who should have access to data is more simple than healthcare data. I find it alarming to read about lack of serious safeguards to protect patient privacy.

I am concerned about all of my data on the Internet. Everyone has financial, medical, and other personal data being stored and used and it is the compilation of everything that has me worried. I want to believe that every company I deal with protects my data to the best of their ability. The bad guys are just as smart and nothing is perfect.

Agree 100% with Randy's statement above. For $9.99 you can obtain my SSN on the internet, and I am going to worry about someone taking advantage of my medical condition? Probably not.

My healthcare data is as secure as my financial data...which is to say there is some risk of exposure for all online data but it's the reality of our digital world. Paper records are not secure; anyone could see me leaving the psychologist/psychiatrist office and gossip about it through social media or in the coffee shop. Besides, why is being treated for depression any different than being treated for the flu? The bigger issue is our outdated, wrong-headed attitudes about mental health.
