  • A victim - 8 years ago

Why come forward now? People were paid to tell malacious lies? While we're all entitled to our own opinion it makes me sick how narrow-minded some of you can be? Have you ever been a victim? Would you really stop at nothing if your child was raped? Culture has changed over the years. We weren't allowed to speak of such things and we held the highest respect for our elders. They are many more victims who were told to keep quiet or are afraid of the damage & embarrassment it would cause the family. I am a victim of rape/molestation from my step-dad. I was a little girl who feared the safety of my mother & siblings. I was confused, ashamed but more than anything I didn't want my bothers growing up hating me because he was their dad. It was not until my mother finally left him that I found the courage to tell her. And Like these other victims I too, feel your shame, your anger & your pain. No amount of time/counseling can ever heal you or make the unjust right. Archbishop Apuron needs to come clean, admit to his mistakes & ask for forgiveness. He also needs to be placed behind bars like any other criminal & serve time for his wrongdoings. The Catholic Church has been divided for some time. I'm not going to bash or criticize the Neocatechumal way but if the Pope belives that we should follow the steps, then he needs to unify our faithful Catholics. My heart & prayers go out to all the victims & families. I pray you find the inner strength to come forward and find peace.

  • I love Guam - 8 years ago

i will agree with the opinion of the Holy See, whatever it is, because it will be just. my best guess is that the archbishop will not return to Guam and spend his final days in some obscure office in the vatican where he can do no harm.

We are all human and subject to criticize shocking behavior that happens above and beyond the levels of any comprehension of trust that we may have of people that we have in high regard. These people may be friends, family, co-workers, neighbors - people that we interact with often. They may be others that we admire, trust and respect because of their position and power in our society. I can only surmise that we are all imperfect in our own imperfect way. Some are more degrading, shocking, perilous, or evil than others and then, sometimes, the only ones that are hurt are the people involved. Maybe, we, who are not involved in the personal lives of the individuals concerned, should back off and let them settle, within themselves- whatever the problem/solution may be. The decisions/ choices are theirs to make, as it is their future that they must focus on. I can only hope and pray for a calm and viable solution will provide peace and love for all parties concerned.

  • Why Play God? - 8 years ago

My apologies. I was so angry after reading these articles... and having been on both sides of the fence, it sucks. The guilty person will burn iin hell. I hope all the victims will find peace. I don't think it's the church that needs a clensing, its the people who need the clensing. We can elect a new politician in one day, we can develop the economy in a decade, but the "ghetto Gjhura" mindset takes a whole generation. Taotao Guam, we're all here to stay With the courage those men had, I hope it continues on. I think a lot of you for giving us the courage to stand up for other ithings.

  • Until Proven Guilty - 8 years ago

Yes! People have accusations and assumptions. About Apuron molesting these men that has come forward. But even in the court of law "He said, She said" does not justify a persons guilt. The problem is, Why? only now are these men are coming forward. If justice was really what they needed. Why now and not then. So as an individual we are all entitled to our opinion. This to me is plain PUBLICITY NEEDED. If any one of these men were my sons. As a parent I will stop at nothing, until justice has been made. A letter or being video air on television. Is not a proven fact of justify act of what's is Apuron being accused of. Now pretty soon will have probably someone in China at 80yrs old come forward to. I mean we are human and to be notice WORLDWIDE people will do anything. So to me this is non-sense!

Woody's commendable comment is as accurate as it can be said. Like Archbishop Hon stated, we should pray for the victims, Archbishop Apuron and the church. It is likely there will be replacements in the diocese who support Archbishop Apuron's assertion should the Vatican favors the victims. Stoners should drop their stones, walk away, clean their minds, pray and ask "what would Jesus do?" Whether venial or mortal, we Catholics confess and ask for forgiveness of our sins. It's a big burden to Archbishop Hon and Pope Francis, heavier for the victims, and I can imagine Archbishop Apuron. Praying for all of them and all of us. Let justice be served by Pope Francis.

I'm not a Catholic, perhaps I have a better way of analyzing since I'm outside looking in. I think he should have resigned a few years ago when the first controversy appeared. Guilty or not, when you have devotees that no longer have faith in him/church, he needs to step down. You want unity in the Church and it's been divided since the first controversy surfaced. He should remember why he choose to become a priest, it's to serve God. To me it's to late for him to leave any positive legacy, the legacy that people are going to remember is these alleged sexual abuses that occurred. Guilty or not, the Church is divided!

someone paid these men to talk.....50K ea. just saying

  • Being Objective - 8 years ago

I like the comments of "why play God." Very objective and its true. We have process called the "law". So sad that it appears everyone who said the words, "castrate, jail him, "Pope Francis fires his ass" seems to be the judge, and prosecutor at the same time. Just curious though, what makes all us better than him since we are all sinners. Do we have the right to judge everyone, persecute and punish each and everyone? Some of us dont want change and some of us want change for personal reasons. Whether the Archbishop is at fault or not, resign or not or whatever necessary actions be taken, do we (us) have that right to judge and punish ourselves. Take a step back folks and look at ourselves, the Devil is sure working on all of us. You notice other religion(s) are stepping in Guam because of our own mistakes. Reflect and think about it. Look at yourself in the mirror. Can you say I'm better than most of you? Think about it. Only prayers is the answer to all of this.

    Resign, arrested, and charged.

  • Why Play God? - 8 years ago

Hey Islander 2. I'm not a catholic,, and thank God I'm not YOUR friend. If all you want to do is ride the wave of blame, then it says a lot about who raised you, what values you impart to your children, and why this world is just messed up. We have a process here.... it's called the law. Can't believe words like "jail him," "castrate him," ... come from your mouths. I really feel for those victims. But you will have your day in court and with God. ...but it's okay. Stupid Spanish and Ameicans blamed us for a lot of things. Like you said.... Birds of a feather.

  • Islander 2 - 8 years ago

@why play god your probably apuron's buddy aren't you . Lol ... Birds of feather right ?

  • Why Play God? - 8 years ago

There is a statistic that over 50% of Guamanians have tried ice. Based om that statistic and the number of comments here, I don't believe half of you druggies.

  • Why Play God? - 8 years ago

We're all presumed innocent until proved guilty. Remember that WHITE woman that blamed a BLACK man for killing her kid because, well, it just sounded SO TRUE! hOW MANY OF YOU OUT THERE WERE BLAMED FOR THINGS YOU NEVER DID. Like the Bible said, "Let He who is guiltless throw the first stone. How many people in prison are in there innocent because they b"looked" guilty.

  • Hafa - 8 years ago

Arrest, castrate, and register as a sex offender! For all of you who are still defending this sicko you need help.

  • Betty B Diaz - 8 years ago

Pay these victims 1 million each! Money is what drives the Catholic Church! It would kill them!! Lawyers do your magic....set your religion aside ...statute of limitations shouldn't matter!

A thorough cleansing is what the Church needs. Top to bottom, inside out, outside in, and bottom to top. In other words, a renew of faith, hope, and charity. Restore Those priests who were wrongly castigated, who regardless of position, stood up for the greater good. Cast the Neo Cathecamunsl Way back from where they came. Our Heavenly Father knows that their native country needs them more. And above all, rebless the Cathedral and cleanse if from the evil it once did housed. Erase from its memory, the very person who filled its foundation with self aggrandizement, greed, deceit, lies, and extreme moral terpitude. Let his name, Luke in HarryPotter, never to be mentioned again. All this, on the name of the Father, who died for us all…

At 70 Archbishop Apuron has served our community for many years. It would be best if he resigned, but if not, the Pope should retire him. His return to Guam to his duties would just prolong the division in our Catholic community. It has been suggested that he be replaced by an outside Archbishop, who is not local nor in any way affiliated with those in "the Way". The statute of limitation has passed on any of the alleged criminal acts. I would suggest that all altar servers be given a mandatory briefing at the beginning of their service warning them of the possibility of sexual advances and that they be told to immediately inform their parents or trusted adults if any clergy or layperson, or other altar server ever inappropriately touch them, or ask that any action be kept secret.

Anthony "Pedophile" Apuron has the option to resign now or the child predator can wait until Pope Francis Fires his ass !!!

Anthony Apuron is like a sinking ship, it's hull has 4 gaping holes and it's taking in water fast and is slowly sinking. The ship's holes will get bigger with more explosives to be detonated and then the ship will descend quickly to the bottom of the ocean !!!!

  • woody - 8 years ago

Seasoned detectives have often stated that the many of the suspects they interrogate emphatically deny their guilt----hey, most people don't
want to go jail or suffer the consequences of their wrongful actions---it's human nature. Combine this wilth pride & denial, and a prestigious position, and it's easy to see why Archbishop Apuron is having a difficult time admitting his guilt. The mounting evidence against him is undeniable, and I have no doubt the Vatican will have no other choice but to remove him from his position. It's a sad fall from grace, and especially sad for all the victims....

  • Spamdom - 8 years ago

Resign??? Hell to The NO!!!! FIRE is The Real
Word!!! FIRE and PRISON and throw the keys away!!! HE is a Disgrace to Human Race!!!!

  • IslandgirlinArizona - 8 years ago

He should be fined and go to jail. It doesn't matter that the act was done years ago, he still did it! It doesn't matter if he is the Archbishop! He is still a person, and all persons need to follow the law. If it was any other person, who committed the crime, they would go to jail! The catholic system is as corrupt as Gov Guam!

  • Rolly - 8 years ago

Apuron should be jailed, he can be the permanent chaplain of DOC. His offense to innocent children is despicable. "A Bishop must be irreproachable." 1 Tim 3:2

  • Dededo Breeze - 8 years ago

I tried not to judged but this is just too much. I don't believe this men will come forth out in public to announce such just to get publicity.
Watching the videos of different men describing the ordeal that happened is not somebody that seeks popularity.
Apuron had to come out of his denials and asked forgiveness from God, this men and face the consequences. He needs to be stripped of his position and put in jail. What are they waiting for? It really breaks my heart to see grown men crying because someone they trust had robbed their innocence by so call educated individual. Please get justice for this men
Apuron resign or better yet it would be nicer if our Holy Father stripped you and feel the pain and embarrassment what this men went through. Although their embarrassment is not know by the public but their mind was so disturbed.
Honestly I've heard of sick mind individual but never imagined the bishop

  • wake up - 8 years ago

Before Apuron resigned, he needs to bring the other priest back that he deported. The priest that got caught in Agat with a minor having sex. Am a Catholic person, wake up somebody needs to go to jail.

  • al erguiza - 8 years ago

Follow the proper protocols by letting the POPE make the final decision. I would suggest that in order to avoid favoritism in the future, the POPE should let all local priests be transferred to other countries. Secondly, the POPE should have foreign priests (that are not from Guam, Philippines or neighboring islands) be the ones managing our churches. By doing this procedures, it removes the personal agenda of certain individuals and vice-versa. It provides an independence appearance for both parties ( public or parish and priests (not selected by the parish). Overall, we reduce the blame game, finger pointing, historical allegations and emotional issues. If I recall, the POPE instructed his staff to be humble by removing all cell telephones at first, and anything lavish in appearance such as flat screen TVs or fancy SUVs. It would be a nice start by everyone being humble. Would do you think, folks?

  • Islander 2 - 8 years ago
