Having red light - cameras is fine and dandy.
My question to the person who came up with this brilliant idea is, " Who is going to be taking red light pictures during a power outage and when the traffics lights fails and keeps blinking when ever it wants to ?
Lastly, nepotism the Pari and mali connections on Guam are strong, will make the red light camera ineffective and unfair to others . i.g..... " Hey pari or hey mali , fix fan my ticket" connections ombi gachong ! Only On Guam.

A waste of $. Typhoons will destroy them. Use $ for increased police patrols. The mere sight of a police cruiser on our roads, neighborhoods, schools, etc. are effective deterrents for many more violations than just red light violations. The community is much safer with an increased police presence. Use what works.

You think this is a public safety issue "red light violators"? How about the ones that drive recklessly daily on meth? How about the speeders who slam into telephone poles? How about the f**kd up roads that cause vehicles to lose control and slam into a pole? How about the daily drunk drivers-which some are cops too? Because last time we checked vehicle related fatalities on Guam are mostly caused by red light violators right? Running the red light on Guam is so common, that GPD should step up their patrols. Increasing patroling the streets are more contributing than some device that automatically takes pics. Other crimes could be prevented as well while patrolling. Many Vehicles driven here have obstructed or damaged license plates which a red light cam can't recognize or fix! Many intersection don't even have updated traffic lighting systems. Prioritize what makes Guams roads dangerous don't bring in some company to collect for GPD using cameras and a laptop...at the expense of the People! Fix the issues that are actually more of a public safety issue broken roads, no-streetlights, druggies running around robbing/burglarizing/reckless driving, time delayed traffic lights, no patrols/slow responding police/corruption/illegal drivers (no license or not registered), compact impact issues....etc.

One way to protect yourself is to purchase a dash cam with a front and rear camera . I have one installed in my vehicle and it gives me a sense of peace knowing I can defend myself if need be in court or with any traffic incidents that may occur . I say everyone should get one .

Our island (Guam/Guahan) is not California, Texas, or Chicago as commented by a few. It's really not that hard to stop at a RED light ... Amber light? RED means RED - so stop the movement of your vehicle.

Public safety, yes. Revenue, yes. And impose fines wherein drivers will think twice before running that red light. I've encountered a near-miss accident as a result of an idiot trying to beat the light. So yes, install that camera.

Only on Guam does yellow mean floor it and red means six more card come on through. .if I could collect a $50 ticket for every car I see running red I could quit my job . You want to stop it try this -Running a red should be a reckless driving ticket mandatory $500 fine . 2nd offense 2 months suspended license + $750 fine 3rd offense six months + $1000 4th offense 48 hours jail + $2500 5 th offense deported to Chuuk

Actually Butch, California still has them.
As for working, they are excellent for increasing the amount of money going to the government (not so much for safety).

Houston, Texas has stopped their red light cameras. The city was sued because it still issued citations when one could turn right after a complete stop or yielding. More accidents occurred because many stomped on their brakes when it turned yellow, not giving those behind them enough time to react. What a waste of time, resources and money.

I live in Chicago, where red light cameras have been more of a headache than helpful. It sounds good in theory, but the safety benefits are minimal.

They disconnected the ones in California too, Insurance companies complained.

I moved to the island from Chicago. When Chicago installed red light cameras, there was an exponential increase in fender benders because people started slamming on their brakes for yellow lights
