You should at MCK as a choice. EIS has been a sinkhole for cash and careers to MCK.

McK (HBOC) has proven over and over that their leadership could not figure out how to build new systems that were accepted in the marketplace. Look at the history of growth. Acquire, Acquire, Acquire. (IFAS, Amherst, Mediflex, Clinicom, ALG, ALI, Relay, etc.) They even bought their failed Horizon Order Entry system from Vanderbilt (WizOrder) which is being replaced now by EPIC.

The acquired companies were leaders in their niches and delivered strong revenue when left alone to run independently. As soon as McK (HBOC) tried to make the acquisitions a part of their mainstream business, they lost the experts and those passionate about their business line. Growth slowed and the hindering structure of McK corporate, sucked the vitality out of these nimble organizations.

The failure of Horizon Enterprise Revenue Management was the result of 7-10 years of development and over $500m of expense only to be shut down in favor of Paragon which was NEVER intended to run a hospital over 200 beds. The HERM project failed due to many classic developmental errors: Onshore - Offshore attempts, Major scope creep trying to deliver all things to all people. Competing Paragon development efforts and costs.

Who will benefit most? Shouldn't the discussion be about how many healthcare IT executives were promised so much, put their support and reputations on the line only to be completely let down. How many dedicated McK employees committed years of their careers only to be let go in constant waves of restructuring. This all occurred under the watch of the McK CEO is the highest paid CEO in America.

Who would really want the rest? Epic is over rated and overpriced and potential Paragon customers couldn't afford Epic. Lots of senior leadership who went with Epic are losing their jobs. Cerner already has a lower cost solution and doesn't need Paragon. Since Pam left McKesson it has lost it's way! I feel sorry for those still there.
