I thought there was a treaty post WWII that says developments south of Hagatna is prohibited in order to keep the south strictly for the true native islanders so they can preserve their customs and culture?

Also, I thought there was a town meeting on this where a majority of the people of the southern area opposed this plan. Was there a vote that confirmed this? If so, the bureaucrats should honor it and simply build it elsewhere other than in the south.

Yes, fix the infrastracture-roads, sewer, lighting, etc. No! Don't destroy southern Guam! Originally from Tumon, returning after over 20 yrs. away in the mainland, I was crushed to see what happened to my former home. So many violations were allowed. Over building, beautiful beaches turned into parking lots, condo built too close to water right on the beach, concrete & asphalt covering everything, etc. This is what will happen to southern Guam if such projects are allowed to take place. What will we have left to leave our future generations then? Stories & memories of what it used to be like?! Stop the madness, stop the greed of a few now!

I'm fine with development happening in the south as long as they don't build another version of Tumon down there. If they build just one or two hotels then I don't think it will be a problem for the environment and the area will still retain most of it's natural beauty.People need to accept the fact our island is changing. With the high population density of our island and growing population numbers we need more commercial buildings and housing to support our community ,it's visitors, and it's economy.

Too many times, plans for development pass without regard for protection of resources, proper sewage/drainage, structural integrity, proper parking, etc. Zoning variances are changed too often, not taking into serious consideration safety of the residential areas close by. I'm talking serious traffic from heavy equipment, customers who frequent the businesses (who unfortunately don't care about speed limits), using roads that only allow single car traffic. I've seen commercial buildings without proper parking, poor sewage (no proper connection to the sewer lines), parking lots without any trees or plants to balance the heat from the asphalt, and I wonder - How did these buildings get approved to be built?

So is there any accountability from the board that passes these projects? Proper protocol isn't even followed in informing the public of the development so the community input can be attained. When does it end? What is the point of having all these laws & rules if its not followed? Where is the enforcement (of looking into whether they followed the plans that were approved?) I CHALLENGE you board, and leaders of the community to do what's right for the people & our island. After all, its your backyard too!

I am not against development, just keep it up north. Don't ruin the South. People from North come down south, because they are tired of the over development too.

Please stop pouring concrete all over our island ! We are losing the natural beauty of our island and it's only going to cause problems to our infrastructure , eco system and water quality . Stop the madness ! Thanks Gov Guam ! Lol !

I'm from the Beautiful Village of Inarajan????????????????????????????????????????????????????☀️????????⛈????????????????????????
Please don't ruin the beauty of the south, keep it in Central & Northern Guam
What will the tourist see then? More buildings that they already have in their country?
That's why we get tourists coming to our BEAUTIFUL ISLAND to see what they probably lost in their country due to commercializing.
    I'm with those who says:
DO NOT BUILD FOR COMMERCIAL PURPOSES!!!!
Nor for other purposes if it's to benefit others...the south is all we have to keep reminding us of our long ago days of growing up ????????????

For commercial development, the answer is No!
For development of roads, drainage systems, and soil erosion projects.etc ...YES !!

  • chenchulu man - 8 years ago

Don't ruin the South...once you start to build then erosion kicks in and everything gets real messy.
Leave it alone already...just keep developing Tamuning and Agana.

We don't need to ruin the scenic beauty of our southern part of the Island. we already did a terrible job in Tumon. This Governor is all about making money for himself. the tourist wants to see natural scenery. China is the most polluted country in the world. We don't need their pollution on our Island. Lets not ruined our Isla for money.
