I agree with Greg K and Tired.

The main problem on Guam is that people can choose whether or not they want to pay for removal of their trash. They put it into someone else's trash container or burn it or, even worse, into vacant lots or the jungle. On the mainland, people don't get to choose whether or not they pay for the removal of their trash, it's either a tax or a fee levied on every residential property.

Nearly every residential property on Guam generates trash. I recommend raising the property tax on EVERY residential property and then making trash disposal free. Alternatively, make EVERY residential property pay a fee for trash removal. The people currently paying for trash removal might well end up paying less. Currently they end up paying for the people who choose not to pay for trash removal. That's not fair.

Guam could be a more beautiful island if so much of it weren't littered with trash. It's embarrassing.

Is there anyone that doesn't know what the outcome of this "poll" will be!?

Why are you gonna pay more on trash when some people can't even pay the power and water bills, it's so sad how the government is all they care is raise think think of the people of Guam not only the government .????????

    I voted yes!
I voted yes, because from what I can gather is that this will pay to remove those Senators that are life long crooks: Rodriguez, Won POT, TMB Munia Barnes, The Ada family and Respicio.
Remember they all gave those huge tax breaks for big business to make a windfall profit every year, while we continue to go broke.

This Core Tech Group cannot balance a budget EVER, cannot pay tax returns or their own taxes, and can only fix a few roads.

While we are at it can we throw away the Police Chief too?

All Of you need to retire now with Bordallo!

Calvo feeds the people of Guam a bowl of shit and brainwashes us to think it's healthy while he enriches himself and his family business . The pocket stuffing campaign has put Guam in a financial black hole forcing the public to pay for their greed and mistakes. Calvo will boast to all how he improved the state of our island blind to the crumbling infrastructure and public schools , blind to the huge financial deficits and the lack of sufficient funds to cover it , deaf to the calls for financial accountability and responsibility . He marches to his own greedy drumbeat with Brutus his butt buddy in crime Tenorio and his moronic minions in the legislative body . The people of Guam must vote out the corrupt and useless , self serving senators like Tina Muna Barnes , Rory Respicio , Dennis Rodriguez , Brant McCreadie the 3+1 = corrupt + moron . Vote them out and choose fresh people wishing to serve the public instead of themselves . My family and relatives thank Senator San Nicholas for trying to reign in the pay raise . I hope you succeed after the this election . Recind the inflated pay raise and deport all convicted FAS/FSM citizens that alone will save millions of $ a year ! Thanks a lot Gov Guam ! Lol .

Section 30 monies are supposed to be used for the bond repayment that's being discussed here. So why do they need
to tap solid wast trash fees? Can someone tell us where all the Section 30 monies are going to? Hmmmmmmm. I remember when the trash fees
we're only $10 a month, and now they want to raise it to $50? Wow!

  • Greg K - 8 years ago

I agree with "tired of the trash problem". If trash collection was billed with water or power, the rate we each pay would go down since everyone is contributing. That assumes the necessary govt investment will be made to pick up the resulting increase in curb side trash. Raising a voluntary fee will only result in our island becoming one big dumpster.

  • Tired of the trash problem - 8 years ago

If they need more revenue, all they need to do is require trash service be mandatory.Combine fee with the water bill. EVERYONE around me is burning their trash so they can save 30 bucks. They have money to drive around all day and sit outside and smoke a cig every ten minutes.

  • Y. Man - 8 years ago

NO! If they raise the fees to $50.00 dollars.. They can come and take their trash bins back because I will terminate my account with Guam Solid Waste.

Oh! expect more illegal dumping because the average citizen cannot afford to pay $50.00 dollars a month.

Someone should enroll Antonio Toves in a basic course in Public Finance -- he obviously does not know that
taxpayers are the source of GovGuam money...

I think the Government of Guam should be held responsible and not the Taxpayers !!!!!!!!
