This bill won't stop child predators, but it will provide just compensation to victims. Legislature needs to now ensure the maximum jail time is set for child predators from this point on. It's funny why the Church and its leaders pushed hard to prevent this legislation from becoming law, and how they successfully passed legislation to limit civil cases from being pursued. In the end, those guilty will pay for their evil acts, despite their denials.

that's the point Gary! Bill 326-33 (COR) is so that victims / survivors may now seek justice from their perpetrator for their pain and suffering, obviously you don't understand the trauma that adults let alone a child experiences as a result of being abused, raped, molested, it's a traumatic experience. if this law prevents even one child from going through the unthinkable experience, then the bill was worth it.

It's much better to have this bill than not have it, for sure. It is the right thing to do. This bill serves to warn predators that if he or she ever rapes, molest, sexually abuse a child, or even contributes to the act, that one day the survivor can seek justice from their perpetrator and the respective institution. Bottom line: Don't do the crime and the law won't need to be use.

If the threat of jail time doesn't prevent it, this bill will do nothing but bring out more victims.

I don't think this Bill that is now law will prevent child sexual abuse. It takes education, training, awareness, and community and family involvement to prevent child sexual abuse. Professionals are already required to report child abuse in any form, however, we as a community need to do so as well. If we are not trained to recognize a a situation where abuse is present, we will not be as effective as a whole in preventing child sexual abuse or any abuse to our children, our future.

Since this law only deals with the statute of limitations, any child sex abuser isn't going to think "I can get away with this for 10 or 15 years, but if I get sued in twenty years, it going to cost me money" Perps don't think like that. Additionally, most child sex abuse is within the family or Ohana. Coaches, priests, teachers may get the publicity but it's Uncle Joe, Aunt Betty or neighbor Willie that do the most abuse.

Maybe not prevent but possibly reduce.
