Minimum wage shall be applied to all, if service charge will be removed and tips to be optional...
If this will be the case, I vote yes.

Minimum wage is what it is. Tips are what it is. Why try and similize 2 totally different things.

I currently work in the food industry and tips aren't mandatory for customers so we don't always get them. The company I work for charges service charge so customers automatically think it's tip towards the workers but we don't get paid the service charge, apparently it goes to the restaurant itself to pay for the food, the power bill, water bill, gas bill, rent. I don't know where the service charge goes exactly but my coworkers and I don't get paid the service charge. Tips are split between the servers, cooks, cashier, dish washer, whoever was on shift that day because we all had a part to deal with for the customer. Why should we be paid less than minimum wage just because we did an excellent job on our shift that the customer decides on their will to give us tip? Dealing with rude customers, cleaning up for people who don't want to cook, having kids make a mess that looks like vomit, dealing with drunk people, so much more-- yes we don't get paid enough for this but tips make up for the things we have to go through. It's not like we are getting paid double digits, so please don't consider lowering our wage because of the tips we get by our customers who aren't forced to give it.

Tipping is not mandatory. However, people will tip the server for going the extra mile to help them have an enjoyable dining experience. Pay servers the minimum wage and leave the tips alone!

You guys are forgetting about the people actually making the product. The back of the house usually never sees tips/ service charge. If they do receive service charge(rarely), it is never the full amount of the service charge that the business made. And the person who said people will not last an hour being a server, I challenge people 30mins in a kitchen. This is why people in the kitchen go crazy. Harsh conditions, underpaid, and no respect for what they do.

I just give the tip directly to the server.

For those people that voted, "No" on this poll.
Please go and try it . Volunteer to be a service worker just for a day.
I 'm positive you will quickly change your mind quickly .... let me add, I don't think you can handle it for even an hour.

Why the owners of restaurants keep the tips is beyond me, if I tip the waiter or waitress it is for their good service, not the restaurant. I even ask there name when they first come to my table, so that if I need something I call them by name, remember the are people too who deserve the basic human respect

A tip is just that a tip. They are not always guaranteed. Just the same the staff are getting paid to do a job. People are not obligated to tip. If there service is exceptional and I think they really took care of me then I will tip. But just doing your job doesn't justify a tip. Too many workers think they are entitled to it.

Cost of living is high, most people work two occupations and still need a form of assistance.. pay em' tips....

Absolutely they should be paid minimum wage.. This tip credit nonsense is just a money grab by the business owners.
Reading Jones say that some resto owners keep the service charge for themselves makes me want to avoid establishments that have a service charge even more than I already do.
It's SHAMEFUL on the part of the restaurant owners.
