Our Governor Eddie Calvo is definitely doing justice the right way. Honestly, he has been doing a great job in making decisions for the people of our island & with this board shinanigan,, the Governor needs to see what needs to be done fairly & righteous. I am sorry but, justice does need to be served with our school system. Mr. John Fernandez has done extremely awesone with our school system.

MR. FERNANDEZ IS ALWAYS THERE WHEN YOU CANT GET THE HELP YOU NEED AT THE SCHOOLS. HE IS VISIBLE, APPROACHABLE,SINCERE AND ALWAYS A GOOD LISTENER. THE STUDENTS SEE HIM OUT THERE AND KNOW HE CARES. HIS OWN KIDS GO TO PUBLIC SCHOOL. FIRING HIM WITHOUT DUE PROCESS IS UNACCEPTABLE. BRING HIM BACK NOW!!!!!

For all the speculation going on, here's what matters. There was a complaint that led to all of this. Board should answer the complaint. All this other stuff and speculation is beside the point. The board looks like it went on a witch hunt and then certain members were so in a hurry to terminate him that they forgot to at least follow the contract procedures. What's the use of a public hearing when they already made a judgment. This is going to end up in court and I think it will be the board that will be left with the blame. They didn't even bother to let him know what he was being accused of and to at least tell his side of the story before they made a decision. That's a critical mistake and I don't think they can fix it. My two cents.

The gov has proven how unprofessional he is, ESP because he can't run for office. Jon Fernandez on the other hand, has done favors for "pretty" girls such as the naked Anna Calvo who is not entitled to be moved around, yet she's still in the very schools posing as a nude role model. Or how about the marriages that are going thru hell because Fernandez threatened the jobs of some women in the Dept? Fernandez is an unclassified employee, therefore he is not entitled to any rights! Wake up people! How is it that every high ranking official who is being investigated, goes on admin leave right away, yet Fernandez didn't think this applied to him! Fernandez had made it so that administrators are shifted and shifted year after year because he thinks that having a steady leader is not what matters! Well look now! He has orchestrated the Dept so that if he's not around things will fall apart. If he was sooooooo good, why is everything falling apart without him?

Mr Fernandez was and is 10x better than senator underwood or that crippled guy in the same position .. there was actual positive results in almost every area including the moral of the students with Mr Fernandez at the helm .. it's sad without any evidence produced he is sacked .
I highly doubt Guam DOE will progress and start regressing back to the old same habit of taking care of friends first before the students ..
I am at disagreement with almost everything Calvo has done thus far but the deportation of Convicted FAS/FSM migrants and this issue with Fernandez is something I wholeheartedly agree and think Gov Calvo is doing the right thing. I wish he would Recind the pay raise until our debts are cleared . So sad . Thanks Gov Guam !

  • Bob - 8 years ago

@Chamorrita What truth are you talking about?? Nothing from the report has been released to the public yet so everyone is just speculating.

  • Chamorrita - 8 years ago

I do believe the Governor should always get involved. It doesn't matter what the issue is. He is our Leader and with that position there is nothing off limits to what he is involved with in regards to our island community. I applaud him for sticking to the truth and exposing the truth for all to see.

Its so funny to see everyone react to this w/o even looking at the "victim" this is the SAME girl who has made numerous FALSE accusations against MANY GovGuam officials @Berlinda DC good, I'm glad you know this girl and the family that means you're also similar with their financial situation. Unfortunately they are not as financially stable most of us I have had the mother and father personally come up to me and ask for money $10's here, $20's there. I am not saying we shouldn't believe when victims come forward but we should be cautious when someone with lots of inconsistencies come forward. Hello they tried to blackmail the broad.

I've met Mr. Fernandez. He helped me when my daughter was being bullied and about to be kicked out of school. She graduated last year. He would call to check up on us and to make sure we were on track for graduation. He cares about the students and that's why they love him so much and are fighting for him. That's what counts. This board needs to start OVER!

  • Stop the mud-slinging - 8 years ago

Character assassination without due process! Good job, Governor! We need board members who know how to do their jobs and not screw up. That goes for both accusers and the accused! Both deserve fairness and now the board and legal counsel have messed that up. Nobody wins.

  • Make Sure Process is Fair - 8 years ago

The Governor appointed them so of course he can ask for their resignation. And if Fernandez is accused then there should be a fair process to allow him to also defend himself. What's so big about that. The fact that the board terminated first and then is only now trying to figure out why shows you that something is wrong and screwed up about the process. That's not fair to anyone. So I'm sorry but the board may end up paying Fernandez for the remainder of his contract and that's a dumb solution to their mess.

  • Mr Jones Federalis - 8 years ago

Title IX violations are NOT necessarily punishable with incarceration or jail time. Get to know the facts... Violations ARE punishable with termination of employment however! So if you are not educated with matters associated with Title IX, then quit posting comments like you know.

If Mr Fernandez violated Title IX, federal funding is in jeopardy and so should his job! More so than just being a perv.... Seems to me that obviously there are several more victims. The general public wants to know the details....unless, of course, it happen to them or their mothers, daughters or sisters!!!!!

PROTECT THE RIGHTS OF THOSE WHOM MAY HAVE BEEN VICTIMIZED!

Being POPULAR amongst students doesn't make him a good man it just makes him notorious. He lives vicariously through these kids.

  • Psuedo JonJon - 8 years ago

Dear Mr Governor and Mr Morrison, Mr Fernandez may be the king of twitter and a social media whore but it does not mean he is the "Mother Teresa" of GDOE. Has it dawned on either of you that he may have in fact been found to have violated Title IX? If this is so, how dare you demand that the contents of the investigation be made public if there are victims named in that report. Maybe through the investigative process, it was uncovered that there were more cases filed for Title IX violations that is not the publics business. The public wants to paint Mr Fernandez as a saint, does anyone really know him? (He insists that everyone call him Mister because as he put it, none of you are my friends so we shouldn't be on a first name basis!) So if none of you are his friends, then how could you possibly know him as a person? You have mothers, daughters and sisters... if they were victims would you like for them to lose their anonymity? to be judged and prosecuted by public opinion? have these victims not been through enough? The public is NOT entitled to know who the victims are nor the substance of their cases! You have daughters, is it ok for a 40 something year old man to text your daughter, regardless of his title? He should be communicating with the parents instead. Board Chairwoman indicated that the decision to terminate Mr Fernandez' contract stem from violations of Title IX that are not entirely related to the JP Torres Alt Ed student. Doesn't that tell you that there are more victims? Maybe the Board is trying to protect these victims, as they have repeatedly stated, its a personnel matter. Get a clue! All politics aside, there are peoples lives here that matter, the victims. I implore you, that before you make public statements and demands that may be damaging to yourself, the tax payers, Mr Fernandez but most especially the victims, speak to the board members and get to know the truth behind their decision, privately. After all, they backed him when he filed the police report, obviously something went awry. Protect the victims and their right to privacy.

Commenter Kepuha said it best. If Fernandez is proven to be a pervert, fire him, if not give him his job back. Calvo should step in because who made the superfluous education board judge and jury? Seems they wanted to quietly sweep a problem under the rug to prevent legal proceedings but the media as usual blew it out of the water.

  • Eric - 8 years ago

The Governor is getting on the boards ass to do their job! If they were doing their job correctly then the Gov doesnt have to step in.

  • Pare - 8 years ago

For Calvo, let the proceedings move on and stop interfering...

  • meee - 8 years ago

Why does the whole island want so much of Jon Fernandez when they don't even know what he did? He can't be around children is he did what they said he did? They make it sound like he is a saint with no faults, heaven sent to save DOE.

  • wake up - 8 years ago

Gov Calvo, you're more stupid who kill god and made you GOD. Dump Ass

  • Che'lu Mateo - 8 years ago

Can someone explain to me what Mr. Fernandez has accomplished during his tenure as superintendent? To me, there is nothing worth praising. DOE's financial management is still an issue, student test scores are still ridiculously low, some schools look like prisons rather than a place of learning and others lack basic maintenance to ensure a safe environment. I'm sure there are more problems but it seems that our government only acts when the PDN publishes a story on it.

Seriously, someone explain to me why this guy is viewed as DOE's savior. By the way, visiting schools; talking and shaking hands with students, does not count.

  • digonggong - 8 years ago

Jon Fernandez jumped into the deep ocean without someone telling him.

Let him swim back to the shore

  • Gov Calvo - 8 years ago

Dear Stupid People of Guam...It's my way or the highway. How else can my family own this island if you don't follow your master. Please remember your place as you will always be below us. All you stupid people are making decisions based on what...you haven't read the report. Did you ever think, what if Fernandez was trying to get in the little girls panties? It's okay is not my daughters...its some other stupid local parents!

  • Truth Seeker - 8 years ago

Those members on the board both appointed and elected have as much to be afraid of as Jon Fernandez. They too can be held liable for missteps and actions taken or not taken. I suspect and would wager that they can and would be held liable for either inaction or harm done to the reputations of both the victims and Jon Fernandez as they've mishandled and failed in their responsibilities to uphold their duties in office. I'd even venture to believe and proclaim that there will be a suit against the government and civil liability costs against the board for their outright failures.

Terminating Jons contract just maybe the simplest, least costly solution, and yet still does not make the situation in truth right for all concerned, most especially the tax payer and schoolchildren who will have to pay for the boards failures. Give the Governor the benefit of the doubt and allow HIM, and even Sen. Underwood, to weigh in privately on the findings of the investigation to see if in fact there needs to be a more independent review or investigation into the matter if not for administrative purposes. Then and only then, will the alleged victims and Jon have their due process leaving them to pursue any other remedies if not satisfied or vindicated. I

  • Berlinda DC - 8 years ago

I happen to be a close relative of one of the victims and she is not a student she is an employee. The governor has no idea what she has been through and her family as well. What happened to her is so very sad. But Calvo acts like Jon Fernandez is a saint and he does not even acknowledge the victims excerpt to say why don't they come forward to the public and talk. Well why doesn't Jon Fernandez? Why don't you ask him the same thing governor?????? Do you even realize how the lives of this woman and others were destroyed. What is wrong with you? Stop bullying the victims and pray for them instead. It's like you are a rabid pit bull defending Jon Fernandez. Are you being paid to do this for him? I just don't understand you act like the victims don't matter!

  • wake up - 8 years ago

Pride.... You're the idiot cause you are reading other people comments. Wake up read the question, not the comments you monkey.

  • Pride - 8 years ago

We might as well be communist if you think that way. Reading your comments almost sounds like you all work for him at Adelup. Not one of you idiots who made a comment are objective. You people take sides without even waiting on the facts to be revealed. For the record, teachers continue to teach regardless of who the Superintendent is.

  • Kepuha - 8 years ago

Governor Calvo has a right to know. He is the leader of Guam. Put everything out in the open. If Fernandez is a pervert, charge him with a crime. Otherwise, give him back his job.

  • John - 8 years ago

Offcourse, he needs to interfere , because cronies like fake Underwood and 6 board members are fu*c*ing around with our students future.

Vote out underwood and remove the board.

  • Basta Man - 8 years ago

When the Governor smells something stinky with the Jon Fernandez's case and he senses Nerissa Underwood the GEB board is using air freshener to mask the odor.

Gov Calvo has to find out what is causing the stench and eliminate the source using the right cleaning solution.

  • Chamorro - 8 years ago

He is the Governor of our Island, anything that happens within the government he should be the first to know. It's like a child getting in trouble do you tell the neighbors or you tell there parents first. Lets not forget that hard hard Ifit that stuck in your eye,
