Lushie has a true love for the game. I have seen this first hand growing up around her children and witnessing her with her grandchildren, friends, and her family members. She does not stop there but also reaches out to teach community members. She uses the game to not only inspires others but to teach valuable life lessons such as hard work, team work and perseverance. I have heard stories of her playing days and know she was something special. One of my favorite things is how she beats everyone in a shoot-out male or female. I think she for sure deserves to be recognized and I am very happy to see her name on this list.

My Mom stops her car in the middle of the street with her door open any time she sees a basketball rim in the street--she will shoot the young or the old out--sometimes for money. Mom has mad skills. My number 1 hooper!

Nobody loves the game like my mom. Nobody has more heart. Nobody can shoot the elbow bank shot like my mom. And most certainly, nobody can play a game of H-O-R-S-E like my mom. Thank you for all your lessons on and off the court.

LaChel "handles" people and her affairs, the way she handles a ball: directly, with purpose and force. This strong loving woman is receiving much overdo recognition!

My Mom, LaChel Burton was the best basketball player in the city. She had the heart that no one else had. Actually, her goal was to play in the NBA. No there was no WNBA back then. She loved the game and she was good at it. She is the # 1 G.O.A.T. Of all times because she has heart--that can not be taught.

Thank you for this opportunity: I, LaChel Burton was the best ball handler and no look passer to go through Battle Creek Central--no doubt! However, Terri Walker could shoot the short jump shot and rebound over the elite. Evelyn Cantrell could shoot the 3 point shot and it was not around when we were playing in the late 70's. Mary Jean Cusic could also shoot the 3 and rebound. Sherrill Smith could both handle the ball and shoot the short jump shot in addition to my sister Thursa Burton. The late 70's was the best team thus far at Battle Creek Central. It was still excellent players in other classes: Mardreanna Reed, the late Sheila Wilburn, Shakoko Cantrell, Lori Mahar, Latoya Cooper, My daughters Dr. Brittnie Watkins, Breanna Watkins, Bridgett Canales, Tyesha Anderson--and many, many more. I love the game. I love everyone who played the game---I just know not another person had it in their heart like me--basketball was my life--that is why I consider my self the heart of basketball: I coach, I still play at 55 years old, my 12 children all play and played--I bleed basketball. Thank you.
