For the fun fact responses. Lyster is a outstanding individual no doubt. Was just stating a fact of how someone stated he did this when they where in the SJV. Which climax left in 98. Didn't even field a team his freshman year. Got blown out every game his sophomore year. Sadly the reason why we left is because climax couldn't compete and no one wanted to play. The best move CS made was going to the SCAA to play school with same enrollment numbers. You can try to talk down stats all you want because of the competition but give credit where it's due. They have made deep runs in the playoffs consistently or lost to teams who won state titles that year or made it to state. Mendon 05 Fulton Middleton 07 MCC 08 Saugatuck 10 Mendon 11 Ottawa Lake Whiteford 2016. Just like another sign of the times when your the 6th smallest class d school in 11man in the playoffs you play schools with quite larger numbers enrollment wise. Be nice when they switch to 8 man football.

While all of you are voting what is Nick Ludwig doing? Coaching a 3rd and 4th grade rocket football team. Teaching the love of the game!

Both Matt and Nick are outstanding young men on and off the field and would have made an awesome presence playing together at any level, D, C, B, or even perhaps A. Let's make this a fun vote because both are great guys who are outstanding role models, positive contributors to our community and unite us as Big Blue Fans!

For the fun fact fans, flip the coin over. Isn't it so easy to build record breaking stats when the majority of your games are played against opposing teams who have no talent whatsoever year after year. All of these ten players obviously were great players, or they wouldn't have been chosen. Each deserve to be on this list, along with several others.

Fun fact Climax left SJV in 98....which means Matt would have gotten the chance to play his freshman year and sophomore year.

One thing is for sure: it is easy to stand out on a mediocre football team. Matt Lyster was a great football player, was that because the talent around him was lacking? We will never know. In Nick Ludwig's case he was surrounded by talented football players....there are 4 other guys on this list that he shared the field with who all also had great stats. He was also class D player of the year his senior year, a year in which they did not make it past the second round of playoffs. Of course, like shawn said, stats are not everything, and it should be noted that Nick also helped out with the Rocket football teams at Climax-Scotts after he graduated and he still resides and is an active memeber of the Climax-Scotts community.

Shout out to Travis Wade and Chad Borden who should have made the list.

As Shawn Wayne stated, Matt Lyster played in the years C-S was in the St. Joe Valley League that was filled with major power house teams and he showed incredible talent against those teams. Today he is as successful off the field as he was on the field. Kudos to Matt and all the finalists!

I would nominate Matthew Lyster from class 2000. Matt was one of the most talented football players I have ever had the pleasure to watch at the High School level. Matt got the chance to play for Climax when we were a part of The SJV, which in my opinion had way more competition.
Matt has continued to display his great attitude and appreciation for the climax sports programs via helping out on the coaching staff for "Big Blue". He has also donated much time and materials required for fixing up our athletic buildings.
He has set the bar in my opinion on the field and off for this community. I think the G.O.A.T at climax football is more than just stats on the field but the integrity, sportsmanship, and giving back to the community even after graduation.

There is no doubt in my mind that Nick Ludwig is number 1. This stems from his character first and his physical abilities second. Nick is extremely humble and is a great role model for all young athletes. His dedication, determination and leave it all on the field attitude make him stand out from any other G.O.A.T. in the area.
