Scanlon should've won the award hands down. He was a 2 way player. Pitching numbers were off the charts for the amount of innings he logged. .16 era should say it all. Some say the run he gave up against South was unearned. He dominated when he was on the mound.. let's not forget his hitting numbers. Also hitting behind Cimillio wasn't many ribs chances as Nick usually drive them in. Also was walked so many times as opposing teams didnt want the big guy to beat them.

Cimillo had a hit in every game verse Finnegan. Dunno what game u were watchin lollll

I watched the game Suffern played against Clarkstown this season. Those Suffern boys were terrific in the field but neither one of them got a hit against that Finnegan kid. He had done his homework. Not sure why there is a poll because win you come away with a championship the losing team generally does not get the trophy. That Clarkstown kid came back from a broken arm, won 10 games for his team which is really hard to do and came away with the championship. Good for him and his team. They were the underdogs this season. I don't think we have seen the last of Finnegan.

Mess with the BULL, you get the horns!! :-)

Every kid on here deserves recognition. They all had stellar years, and deserve notoriety. They all deserve support from the community for what they’ve meant to their teams, and programs over the years. Rather then bicker about who wins, let’s celebrate all of the accomplishments this year has brought. Awards are great, but the memories and brothers gained are everlasting.

Gotta go with the big lefty Finnegan, I love kids like this. I looked him up, he’s a senior and every picture of him, he’s got dirt on his uniform. Practically carried his team. As for the votes, people send these things on and on to their friends and family. Can’t blame them I guess. Anyway I think the paper will decide, they probably already did. Good luck Finnegan.

It takes a lot more than just sitting in front of a computer jerk... you have to reset your VPN every 20 votes or so... not to mention having to delete your cookies after every vote. It's a hell of a lot harder than playing hs baseball!

Well said. It says a lot for the Suffern program to have 2 amazing players in Cimillo and Scanlon to be nominated. Collectively Cimillo and Scanlon were a dynamic duo and were successful because of team work. Pitcher/Catcher, 3/4 hitter. Good Luck Boys, Both of you are the true winners

  • Howard - 6 years ago

This award is based on merit...not staying in front of a computer and voting till you gain the lead. It obvious, enough already. Congratulations to all the boys for being nominated, each had an amazing year.

As all baseball fans know "you're only as good as today's starting pitcher ". With that being said Finn beat the very best teams in the section. In high school baseball where the season is so short and every game is so important he was truly dominant. There was no easy stat building starts for him, each n every start was pressure packed. That is what should separate him from the rest of the group of boys that also had fine years, but just a not as tough.

This is just something to think about to support Scanlon’s case... how many more rbis would Scanlon have if Cimillo didn’t hit in front of him? Also he was intentionally walked at least 7 times. This kid is on great ball player who is deserving of this award!

  • Uni - 6 years ago

The award is for the Rocklands best player and when it’s read like that how does Scanlon not win I mean this kid did everything for his team he is truly a dynamic ball player. With out Scanlon Suffern doesn’t have the season they do he just does everything and he also has the best talent so there you go.

Taco Runs is all day sen... no class, mad votes

Finnegan yeah he had all those wins but that’s only because he threw every game. If you look at it like this Scanlon should 100% win because this kid was way more dominant on the mound I mean he had 71 k’s in just 44 innings when Finnegan had 78 k’s in 71 inngings. Finnegan was a work horse but not nearly as dominant on the mound as Scanlon. Scanlon also only let up one run all year posting .16 ERA. Now the closer to this argument is Scanlon was an absolute monster at the plate and half the time he wasn’t pitched to because he was feared so greatly hence the .590 OBP. Good race but Scanlon was an absolute stud this year!

  • More then a game - 6 years ago

Scanlan does it at the plate, and on the mound. Best #’s of any pitcher on here, toss W/L out the window. Struck 70 guys out in 40+ inning while only allowing 1 run all year. Plus hit over .400 with over a .500 OBP. If it’s best overall player, should be a clear cut choice here. Pavlachak second, two way guys need to get it

  • Proud coach - 6 years ago

These are four outstanding canidates but more importantly great young men. I have coached against Suffern and Nyack and there is no doubt how great these players are. As the proud coach, I would like to mention that Kieran pitched against and beat... Suffern North Rockland 2x, Arlington, Mamaroneck 2x, Fox Lane, Bryam Hills, Clarkstown North and JJ East Fishkill . His only loss came to Lakeland in a 1 run game (Class A state finalist). He lead our team to its first ever section chanpionship. I would love to have any of these young men on any team i coach but how much more could of been asked of Kieran to accomplish. (Confernce 1 Pitcher of the Year for all Class AA) Again congratulations on a great season from all these players!!

Congratulations to all the boys! They are all great ball players and wonderful representatives for their teams.

Jack Scanlon posted a .400+ batting average, a perfect fielding percentage, and a .16 ERA in 44 innings. Best two way player by a long shot!

  • Fan - 6 years ago

Not to take anything away from Nick but if it's really about Rockland Player of the Year how can you not go with Finnegan. A 10-1 record (8 of them complete games), 80 strikeouts, 20 walks, 1.27 ERA against one of the toughest schedules. He led this section and won the Section Championship game with a one hitter, 12 strikeouts and no walks. Not sure you can have a better year then that. If you want consistency Finnegan has only lost 2 games his whole high school career. Finnegan's got my vote.

  • Consistency - 6 years ago

Taking nothing away from Finnegan but Cimillo has now done this three straight years, he was runner up last year for this, although most thought he should have won it. Cant see how a guy who has never hit under .390 in his three years on varsity could lose it. He's been the best bat in the county for three straight years.
