It seems that the comments have gone from discussing an All Sports award to other non-sports discussions.

Haven't seen much credit given to respective schools for their accomplishments. There may be some "sore sports" out there that are losing in the poll!

I just watched a Stepinac student walk around in circles looking for an imaginary object.

This guy really thinks stepinac and Iona education is the same thing? That actually made me laugh

  • Crusader - 6 years ago

Never could understand why you would want to pay almost double the price for the same education.

    But athletically speaking....

Stepinac Football- State Champs in the highest division
Stepinac Basketball- State Champs in the highest division

    Enough said.

Through many categories, athletics, academics, extracurricular, and alumni achievements, Iona Prep surely is the Private School of the Year. Athletic programs at the prep are known for being rigorous and rewarding, with 31 athletes this year committing to playing at world-class schools, with familiar names like Brown, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Holy Cross, Villanova, Stanford, Rice University, etc. Additionally, students are prepared to go on to many notable collages, like Yale, Harvard, Upenn, Boston College, Notre Dame, and Georgetown. One May argue that Iona's tuition is higher than other school's, however you get what you pay far. The class of 2018 alone had achieved MERIT-BASED scholarships( meaning the kids are smart) totaling over $30 million. Additionally, over half of the student body earns more money in scholarships to college than their entire four year tuition combined. If that isn't a great return on investment, tell me what is. Academic are rigorous, obviously, and the Prep is one of very few high schools that allow students in all four class years to take part in the Advanced Placement program, which are COLLEGE-LEVEL classes. Furthermore, I believe Iona Prep is the safest High School in America, with an ID system that must be used to open doors that are locked at all hours, consistent safety drills for things such as fires, and regular drug tests with police dogs. The ID sysrtem have the most enforcement on campus, with students receiving punishment if an ID is not on one's body. Also, Iona Prep has a campus that rivals all schools in Westchester, with updated multi million-dollar science labs, a dedicated arts center , a brand new fitness center, and dozens of acres of space, Iona is a better rival to the cramped single building campus that can be seen in White Plains. Teacher sat Iona are of a high quality, with almost all of them holding either a PHD or Masters degree. Additionally, a large amount of the faculty or alumni who can connect better with students as they have taken the same journey at The Prep. Furthermore, Iona prep is consistently ranked high against other private schools. On the popular Niche.com, the most reliable website for data on private schools, Iona Prep is the only school in Westchester to rank in the top 10 at #6 overall of all-boys schools, as well as being the only school in Westchester to be in the top 10 of all catholic schools, in which it ranked #10. Iona prep additionally has an A+ grade on niche, as opposed to other schools(Stepinac) that has an A- grade. Iona does a lot to better the Hudson valley community, such as putting a large emphasis on recruiting and admitting kids from low- income or disadvantaged backgrounds, and providing millions in scholarships for kids who could otherwise not afford an Iona tuition. Refurbishment programs also are taking place , such as the $10 million dollar arts center on campus. Iona Prep rivals small universities in terms of academic rigor and campus. Another important factor of the Prep is it's successful alumni. Ionians have gone on the be heads of industry and excel in many fields, such as being the CEO of Visa, a baseball player for the Pittsburgh Pirates, the owners of the New York Giants, or real estate moguls. At Iona, many kids enter without direction, discipline, and being immature. But what is for sure is that every graduate of The Prep leaves as a moral, compassionate, and disciplined young man who has a focus and a goal of improving the world. Hackley is a phenomenal school academically, and Stepinac is great athletically, but to have the best combination of both is found at Iona Prep which outshines every other school overall.

Congratulations to Hackley, Iona and Stepinac HS on their nominations in the Private School All-Sports Awards category.

For this sports award, I believe one must immediately look at the feat pulled off by Archbishop Stepinac in the two biggest sports, football and basketball.

For only the third time in the history of the CHSAA, a school won both boys football and basketball championships in the same year. In addition, Stepinac won the NYS Catholic football championship for the second time in three years, and also took the NYS Class AA Federation title in basketball. In addition to accomplishing this rarest of rare feats, the bowling and tennis teams won titles as well as an individual wrestler.

It was a year that likely will not be matched again!

Stepinac is also the best private school bargain in the region. We're not talking 45k+ like Hackley, or even 18k like Iona. Students at Stepinac have a tuition of 12.5k with a new engineering/law/computers/business vocational track, as well as being the first high school in the country to go to an all-digital format for student books. I just have to rep Step!

No disrespect to Hackley, but Stepinac and Iona play in the Toughest Division in the State. Hackley plays the equivalent of Class a.

My son Conor is a STUDENT athlete at Hackley. I stress student as their academics are unparalleled. And at the same time, their commitment to their sports programs is as well. The new Wellness Center is breathtaking. It was built to invite all students to participate. Each Hackley sports team although smaller than some, are full of heart, integrity and grit. GO HACK!

I hope that Ursuline was considered in this category. State champions in Tennis, third and 11 place in state golf tournament, westchester county cheerleading champs, national champs in distance medley relay to name a few accomplishments. Although Stepinac is deserving this year

Kennedy catholic also should have deserves a spot in the poll, girls basketball had an outstanding season, boys and girls lacrosse took home city championships and boys took home the state and softball won their league and baseball held their own with several injury’s and advance to be the final 5 in a very competitive catholic league playoffs

Playing for the Hackley School I can say that the hard work put into academics and on the sports field is unmatched. Students have a rigorous course load and still manage to compete at the top level on the field and courts.
