Fountains Abbey always stuns me by its contrasting ruins and then the formal water gardens. The ghosts of the monks can surround you as you stand in the refectory, but also the overwhelming power of such a massive and far-reaching enterprise makes one realise how much control and influence the church had at that time.
Edinburgh is also such a contrast between old and not so old, and Bath is utterly charming too. Love the industrial stuff as well, and the landscapes, and the buildings. Sorry - can't really choose
London's maritime Greenwich is a must to see. Set in a fantastic park with the museam at the bottom ad the Greenwwich meridian line on the hill at the observatory is fab.
