Now that we plugged through that poorly written opinion let me say this. I bike year round. Snow, rain, sleet or hail. I bike through conditions you list and I'm sure there will be people who concur. Everyday I see people biking to work. Maybe we don't try to push our opinions on others because we don't like it. I’m saying no, Why? Well is just not feasible. It rains to much, snows to much, and our mud is to much. Truthfully is a royal pain your seat gets stolen or your bike, broken bikes left for ever.. The helmet laws and just the problems that come up day to day with the rentals. Most of us live far from where we work,
Now if you’d allow, some rules to be dismissed, perhaps , such as alternative transportation , ie mopeds, or atv’s. Or electric bikes,,,!
With out helmets you may get a bit more public buy in.
ATVS! are very popular mode of transportation in the states, if it’s carbon reducing foot print your looking for alternatives need to be looked at as well.
Spend millions of our tax dollars on a very small percentage of our population and attempting to push riding a bike on the public is just not right , on any level of common sense. Some where someone’s gotta change the rules here to where people have a choice is what they do and don’t do. laws need to be changed so they have choices. Do I ride a bike, helmet, rain gear, put up with puddles, theft problems, big trucks etc. Somewhere bike riders think thier 1/2 predestrian, and are more guilty of road rage than most. Rules don’t apply , scooting in and out of tight areas you just don’t see them fast enough. Hmmm maybe that’s why motorcycles have loud exhaust , least you hear them!
If you want to reduce carbon emissions, look to allowing alternatives. ATVs and mopeds, limit them to 80 km roads and country use , you’ll see a big difference, and a lot of them. Look at sales of the can am, and Polaris, 3 wheelers, very popular in the sunshine states, and helmet laws are relaxed. ATVs aswell. Just limit them to non highway use except those that are designed to be used on highways. But for in town run about and quick trips to the store, why not!!! Most people with common sense will use helmets. Helmets on the highways sure, in town , maybe not so much.
Oh I can hear a bit of reluctance , but governments, have ruled out freedoms of choice, just a thought.
