Your narrative adds to the confusion when you use the terms "service dog" and "support animal" interchangeably. A service animal is has legal protections, and includes dog's and mini- horses that are trained and have credentials. Emotional support animals of any kind have no protections under law. Yes, you can ask what the animal does, but you cannot ask what diagnosis the dog is required for.
