Lol. Really LJ...your a twit! The global news article for this poll actually quoted boardwalk saying smoking cigarettes is allowed in some boardwalk buildings. Why are you renting? The smell from fish and curry alone is worse for me. Or Cabbage. It’s nasty!!! But you picked that life by renting. So suck it up!
This is how I see this. If you ban smoking or alcohol than by all means ban weed. But you can’t ban possession. And while your at it, miswell ban alcohol consumption on boardwalk property too if you think you have all the power in the world. Miswell also tell tenants to stop having house plants on your properties too as they can cause mold when kept in large numbers. You can grow weed plants without power you idiots. I get it they might have an odour to them, but some house plants do. Cats and dogs have odors but they are allowed. Some cultures also could have some complaints for odor but we learn to deal with it. The same will be for weed and that’s how it should be dealt with. Just another added annoyance to our public forced lives of smells. Heck, let’s not forget about the corner of 109st and princess Elizabeth.
I’m wondering how many won’t be resigning a lease come next year because I wouldn’t be if I was renting. I’d actually cross out the section, initial and then sign it to see if they notice.
Watch, they will back down from it. Because the majority of boardwalk buildings I have been in, can smell like weed on every floor. So they are kidding them selves. And...much of my weed dealers worked out of these places....lmao!
I’m also a medicinal prescribed user and I would challenge this if I was renting. It’s a violation of your rights!
Shit smells....get use to it boardwalk and get you heads out of your asses!

Boardwalk trying to make a name for themselves!!! They may be the largest rental company... but care nothing about their apartments... instead of trying to fix the marijuana problems... they should be concentrating on there rental units .. I live in Vista Heights I would not recommend to anyone... most ppl move out due to poor maintenance ... I had from sewer backups to water leaks in the walls... no toilet in my bathroom downstairs for 1 month and I have the pictures to show... when my apartment was getting renovate in 2015 after 6 years of fighting with boardwalk they took the blinds down and guess what I just got new blinds last week that’s almost 3 years later... So boardwalk is doing this for no more than attention... Like I mean this just don’t make sense at all he’s worried about marijuana when he should be worried about a family of 10 living in a four bedroom apartment right across the field from me now thats a safety issues come on right... there is more than 300,000 Canadians using legal marijuana right now in Canada because of health issues... is Boardwalk going to stop this ???? Come on... They should be more Concerned about over the counter meds like Opiates( which actually kills people).. shame on you Boardwalk...

I am honestly very upset with this. I am a medical user like many others. I am mindful of my neighbors, and children. I do not smoke in the property as "no smoking" IS a rule in my boardwalk property..... I do not smoke around others. I have lived in my apartment for 3 years, how does a company just decide this WITHOUT contacting their tenants about this? I need my prescription and I'm now being told I am not allowed to have any on the premises or use it.. I cant keep it in my car or the cops will try to charge me. So what i have to move now and break my lease? I'd really love to see some solid information/ the new policy boardwalk is looking to implement. I feel it will go 1 of 2 ways. People will continue to do what they want regardless or you will lose a lot of residents.......
Looking forward to a follow up email.

Buzz kill Boardwalk
I don’t remember Boardwalk asking me for my opinion? They are generally pretty prompt with any tenant updates and surveys?
I have been a boardwalk tenant for almost 3 years I am in the 55+category. Have lived peacefully amongst other tenants and I have a prescription for medical marijuana. I have never had a neighbor knock on my door or received any complaints. According to Boardwalk I now have to quit taking my medication in my own dwelling? I would say putting that kind of burden on their medically dependent tenants could have legal implications.
When pot becomes legal for all adults perhaps Boardwalk should consider modernizing their views.
Boardwalk is creating an issue where there really is none other then the need for more education around the topic.
I know Boardwalk is concerned with the marijuana smoke bothering other tenants, concerned with additional utility cost from growing the four little plants that you can grow legally in your apartment. Not sure at all why edibles would concern Boardwalk?
So for all its worth Boardwalk, I am not a fan of cigarette smoking! I cough and sneeze every time I smell it the smell is rancid. Please ban cigarette smoking! Please make sure all your buildings comply and don’t allow smoking anywhere, porches or other wise. The wind carries the cigarette smoke to my balcony and it offends my nostrils and you know what they say about second hand smoke.
Furthermore Boardwalk just thinks of the money you could save by banning cigarettes completely from all your properties. No cigarette burns or need to paint the ceilings or walls from yellowing out.
Also Boardwalk alcohol, I am not a fan of it. Please ban alcohol! There is money to be saved Boardwalk.
No spilled beer and alcohol on the carpets, or holes in the walls from partying. No drunks walking the halls or turning their music up to loud. Besides you would agree that drinking makes people unpredictable they are happy, sad, mean, or violent. I think some one vomited in the elevator in 2016? So please ban alcohol from homes.
Prescription drugs, don’t need a bunch of bunned' out prescription junkies falling asleep with their cigarette in one hand and their drink in the other hand, those type of people could burn down the apartment block?
So please ban prescription drug use! People are not fully coherent and it scares me to live side by side with such people you just never know.
Just think Boardwalk that along with the money you will save on utility use from not allowing pot smokers to grow their 4 little houseplants. You can save even more money by banning all the other items I listed.
Sincerely
Your Tenant

Cannabis should be banned in ALL rental properties. Liquor also is an intoxicant, but people drink it and it goes into the toilet later then flushed away. Cannabis is smoked or consumed yet its negative effects linger and cause long-lasting problems to the apartment, condo, or house.

Boardwalk...a landlord who consistantly breaks Alberta tenancy Act rules and lies to tenants to avoid the return of damage deposits (no I am not a tenant nor have I ever been) are the worst and it's hilarious that the spokesperson is saying they will present the issue to Alberta Tenancy Act. Regardless, I have to wonder if this is bothering people due to being a somehow perceived moral matter because yea it smells but hey so does your cooking, air fresheners, perfumes etc that also cause issues with people who have compromised health. It sucks but it's reality is apartment buildings.

this is a situation that boardwalk has is going to cause a mutiny , the situation that they are causing is something that they should really reconsider due to there are of pot people will move and live other where their buildings will be abended and run down more then what they are now these shit hole have more situations going on then they have any thought to fixing or even care about it is all about the money , how about dealers in these buildings are more full as there is smokers , pot does not smell its used in discretion by many responsible users they should be thinking about telling them that only out side use not telling them they cant smoke it GET A GRIP the smells they really should be worried about are the SMELLS that come out of some of the residence that the filth and debris that they have in their homes which causes more filth and bug infestation these are the situations that they should be looking in to not a pot user get with the times its is 2018 its LEGAL as of October 17 and that smell that Boardwalk is so worried about will be every where EVERWHERE so suck it up so called people that pretend ,Growing it that's a whole different story it causes sickness not pot But smoking it ITS LEGAL as of October 17 they lie they lie they lie its seen on tv id like to know where they are going to hide to smoke their pot since they are most employed by boardwalk and they even house them well cant in their houses can they LOL LOL policy's need to be changed their rules do not comply as they think not even by their staff how are they going to deal with the users they have employed

I agree with banning smoking or growing cannibis, but edibles & oils should be allowed. I’ve been a medical user for many years & understand the smell can be awful, but medical users need to be able to access their medication. And it IS medication. It’s a better pain management system than narcotics. It’s not addictive like pills, and causes far less side effects. An outright ban would be, in my opinion, a violation of human rights.
As far as it being legal for recreational purposes, if you are renting, you do not own the property, therefore you have to abide by the owners rules. You can move or buy your own home, where you can do as you please. I’m sure there will be those who capitalize on this issue, by some property owners renting apartments & homes where they allow smoking pot, & use it as a sales pitch to rent the units. If I owned rental units, I’d probably do that myself. I’m sure all this will get worked out eventually.

What a contradiction with Boardwalk . Many renters smoked pot where I lived. It was not legal then. Now that it becomes legal, they are saying no. What a joke.
On the other hand, if there is no smoking in rentals, that is a better alternative.

I consider the, all of a sudden, "blanket policy of no smoking, including tobacco", for the safety and health of residents, a knee jerk reaction. Those who use marijuana for medical reasons, with a doctor's prescription, should not be told they cannot have their medication. If people go "overboard" with recreational smoking. and smoke up a storm, then a warning should be issued with possible eviction. All this on a case by case process.

Yes should be banned. I am a renter in Calgary. The smell is disgusting, smells like skunks! It poses a risk to people with compromised health issues on many fronts.....they don’t allow smoking of other substances like cigarettes etc so why should this be any different? Just because there are a lot of addicts do the rest of us have to suffer? Is this fair?
