Years ago I was recruited by and relocated to join a company. The first week that I was there my boss - who had hired me - told the team he was "moving to a different role" (translation: was on his way out the door) and we would be reporting to someone else that I had never met and subsequently discovered they had a completely different direction for the group in mind. Within two months I was told I "wasn't the right fit" and let go. We had bought a house (our first), and that same week my wife and I found out that she was pregnant.
My job search took 5 months, but we never lost faith and eventually I had not one but two offers. The new company that I went to work for was headquartered in Europe and we ended up getting to live there for 3 years, which ironically was something that we had dreamed of doing but had no idea how to do it. I spent 10 years with that company, being promoted several times and eventually coming back to the US in a leadership role.
You never know what is around the next corner - opportunity favors the prepared. Keep working hard (even if your work is looking for work), keep learning and stay positive!

I was fired after 3 years of increasing friction with the managing partner of the firm I helped start.
It was the best thing that ever happened to me! I went on to found a very successful and well recognized IT & performance improvement consulting firm which was very professionally & personally rewarding!

My advice to those that have been fired or demote - take a break, reflect, learn from your mistakes, focus on your strengths and move on to pursue the next opportunity about which you are passionate. In all likelyhood, you’ll wish you would have done it sooner!
