Do you think West Island cities should lift a ban on car shelters like Tempos during winter months?

The people who are against tempos do have indoor parking and are just selfish and have no consideration for others. They should mind their own business and stop looking in their neighbors home and property.

As Sharon said, who the hell is checking out peoples curb appeal during the winter?! This is a convenience for those who want to have less snow to remove on their driveway and not having to pay for snow clearing service. I shovel and use my snow blower and do not see the value in paying over $300 a year for snow removal service that everyone complains about for never being on time. Plus its great not having to clear a mountain of snow off my cars and scrape 6 windows (per car) with and inch of ice in the mornings. Ya the windshield cover works but what about all the other windows?!
How many times do we see "that idiot" with 3 feet of snow on the top of their roof because their too lazy and stupid to do it, (granted some people just can't physically clean it off either as they cannot reach the roof). This potentially causes accidents as it creates a smoke screen on the highway and/or comes blowing off in shards hitting other cars, etc.

Oh but wait, they're eye sores and because some people just love to admire their neighbours houses all year long lets just not think about the added convenience and safety benefits they provide during the gloomy, messy and miserable winter months.

Frost on a windshield is easily dealt with and does not require those white ugly tents - just get a windshield cover - remove it in the morning and way you go.

But for those who believe that they should be able to use them in DDO - when they bought their homes or moved into the town they knew (or should have made themselves aware) of the restriction - if it was that important, it should have been one of the criteria for deciding where to live.

Of course instead of a Temp one could always purchase or rent a place with indoor parking (or, if you have indoor parking by the garage is filled with crap you can always clean it out).

So, no. There is no reason whatsoever to change the rules. The things are butt ugly.

There are obvious advantages to car shelters, but having driven out to Laval for work one winter, they are an undeniable blight on the landscape. Every house seemed to have one, whether or not they had a garage, and they made the place so ugly. The city could make exceptions for people with disabilities, in the same way you would for wheelchair ramps. But if the look of the neighbourhood doesn't matter, or if it's already architecturally bleak, then there's nothing to be lost.

I would also like the possibility of putting up a tempo in Pointe Claire. . I cannot tell you how many times I have slipped in my driveway and fallen. Yes the snow clearing company gets rid of the snow but not the ice that forms. I have also cracked a windshield trying to scrape off the ice. It would make my life easier and safer. Why not allow a referendum where the citizens/taxpayers in the community can vote to decide.

Not only is it an unpleasant chore to scrape snow and ice off a car that must stand unprotected throughout winter, but there is a safety aspect that I haven't seen mentioned. Windows of a vehicle protected by a temporary shelter are usually frost free and therefore provide drivers with better visibility and thereby improve road safety. Cities that permit temporary shelters save their residents an unpleasant chore but also contribute to improve road safety. I wish that Beaconsfield would lift its ban.

During the winter months I drive through West Island communities that allow tempos and am always envious of them being allowed to temporarily install these. Many people against the installation say it is because they are ugly ….. but during the winter I am not checking out a persons landscaping ….. too cold and just want to get from point A to B. I think people should have more pressing things to be concerned about. I live in Pointe-Claire and would love if we were allowed to install one in our driveway for 6 months of the year...especially for senior citizens who are still active, but do not like the snow clearing.
