    Atlantic Privateers: I agree with Chris Carter, what a great Atlantic historical name and supported with a team song, the beloved Barrett's Privateers. With a catchy caricature/mascot, the Atlantic Privateers would rival any of the other CFL team names.

    Atlantic Armada

    Don’t mess this up guys and girls!! Schooners is way too cliche and doesn’t suite a football team. Someone on here said white caps... I like it. My dad had a good suggestion too, Atlantic Alliance. I voted for admirals though. Atlantic admirals had the best ring to it. Personally I think whoever picked the names to be in the poll should be fired. This is kind of a big deal.

    THE ATLANTIC FLEET would be a great name for a CFL football team. It applies to our naval , fishery and merchant shipping history.

    I still like Atlantic Schooners the best, with current 'Ship' logo. Great pairing off with the Argo Ship. A third logo/jersey could be an Anchor, reminiscent of the Halifax Explosion. North America sports original.

    Atlantic Continentals has a nice ring to it . saluting the tradition of maritiers fishing the banks of Canadas continenetal shelf. The Schooner name serves to promotes Olands beer, at no price to them.

    Those names sound silly--HURRICANES would be a good name--some of those names are on other professional teams logos---

    Everyone needs to look deeper into the roots of halifax ...what is halifax or even NS about??? It only makes sense to name them Halifax Whitecaps (all the whitecaps & rough storms off the coast of halifax ) or Halifax citadels (which is the center of Halifax..a huge attraction

    Halifax Privateers all the way!

    Chris Carter beat me to the punch on two of the biggest points: dressing up as a pirate and the music - Barrett's Privateers is a personal favourite! How much fun would a late-October game be?
    The other names just don't measure up:

    - Schooners: obvious link to the Bluenose, but cliché, overused;
    - Storm: overused, sounds like a kids' team;
    - Explosion: bad visual, think 6 December 1917;
    - Convoy: no, just no, think of the song;
    - Admirals: maybe, but I'm ex-Army, so...

    Getting goosebumps just thinking about thousands of people belting out the lyrics "Oh, the year was 1778..."

    Really? There is only one name....BLUENOSERS!
    Team logo would be the ship but it is really the people on the ship, so one logo has the ship and a 'third jersey' has the iconic fisherman's hat....Winner!

    The CFL has a number of goofy team names. Why rub it in with the Schooners - an extra large beer? Please sink the pet name that means little beyond the region.. And why name them after a washing machine brand. Convoy brings up the 70's song, with Big Ben and Rubber Duck. Please, NO!!!

    May as well call them "The Flounders".

    Too bad "The Explosions" has bad feelings around it - pretty cool beyond the history.

    The Atlantic Storm would evoke strength and respect everywhere.

    Please not Schooners. So lame. Name should be powerful, not looking to invoke shanties

    When I'm in halifax every year, I think.of harbours. That my pick.

    Submitted a few. Atlantic — Ocean, Coast or Coasters, Wave or Waves, Hurricane or Hurricanes, Harbours, Lighthouse and Acadians. . There are many, but I did submit the above several times. So glad to see CFL headed to Atlantic Canada and NS my home province. Carroll Baker C.M.

    My suggestion is based on the 1950’s Shearwater Flyers who were a team of military servicemen who played in the University League capturing the University Cup and now are in the Nova Scotia Hall of game. Thus the “Atlantic Shearwater Flyers “ a fine tribute to our servicemen/women who serve our Forces proudly.
    Shearwater a long standing military base, Shannon Park that no doubt housed some of the football players and the Shearwater is an Atlantic seabird.

    I understand that Maritime Football Ltd would like to use 'Atlantic' as it seems all encompassing for NS;PEI:NB and maybe more enticing for fan support as 'our team so to speak . However, that said, I think the term HALIFAX will still be accepted and embraced in Atlantic Canada by all football fans, as we're all Downhomers.
    Although I'm not against the name "Schooners" I think the name "Halifax Explosion" (not pluralized) would be a more dynamic name which could be represented by an unique Logo on sweaters and ball caps to enhance sales of team wear and interest. Maybe a Special Game Bus from Charlottetown or Moncton especially for weekend afternoon games would be a good 'Atlantic' connection.
    GO! HALIFAX EXPLOSION! I can hear the booming ticket sales now! Good Luck!

    Halifax Nor-Easters is very fitting..

    The Seattle Storm is the name of a professional basketball team. Our CFL team should be called The Atlantic Schooners.

    How about a multi-headed sea monster...the Halifax Hydra. Would be a very unique name that actually suits the way a football team needs multiple leaders both on and off the field.

  • Chris Carter - 5 years ago

    Atlantic Privateers
    How fun would it be to dress up as a pirate to support your team ! Kids would love it. Incorporate Barrett's Privateers song into the pregame.
    I guess I could wear an Admirals cap to support the Admirals. Storm, Explosion, ... Noooooo . Convoy? where did that even come from ?
