Should Apple make a larger iPad Pro?

Give me a larger than 12.9". If camera etc. was removed, and made it less pricy. Even greater!

I would love a 15 inch iPad Pro I’m visually impaired and a larger device would really be very nice for people with vision problems I would be in a van I’m disabled due to my vision and I will I have is the iPad Pro I don’t like using the computer so an iPad Pro and a 15 inch would really help a lot of visually impaired people that I know for sure but being that I am visually impaired myself

  • 15" iPad Pro Please - 5 years ago

I have 25 ipad pro 12.9" for my team and everyone of us would prefer something that is bigger. This conversation reminds me when I switched to the Galaxy Note 2 because Apple had its head in the sand of not coming out with a bigger iphone screen. I'm back to iPhone now, but only after Samsung decided not to sell its Note 5 in London.

Currently I use both Mac book pro 15" and ipad pro 12.9". Why wouldn't Apple want to "Service Design" the ipad and macbook pro to work together so you could pop out a 15" ipad pro and use it as a 2nd screen for the macbook while you're on the road? Be innovative...

I keep wanting to replace my macbook with an ipad. They're more portable, have longer batter lives, and I enjoy using the pencil to sketch out ideas. For most anything "desktop" related that an iOS can't do (looking at the Inspector when doing web development for example), can be done by using a remote desktop like Shadow or similar. Another benefit of using a remote desktop for certain tasks is you can access machines with more processing power as well. I just wish the screens were a little larger. 15" would be great. Get two of those and you have a very portable dual-screen setup with all-day battery and access to whatever type of machine you need (with maybe just a few use-cases that might not work as well as laptop).

I would start saving today for a 14.9” iPad Pro that has very thin borders or edge to edge screen with the same features and more as the 12.9” iPad Pro. I. Would watch movies and more tube videos. The jigsaw puzzles would be even bigger and more fun if screen space isn’t ate up with advertisements and empty back ground. More creative space instead of wishing for more space. Some times when looking for books the screen can not be enlarged with fingers and need magnifying glass to read small print on cover not the title but the other assorted print they usually add. There are lots of disabled and elderly that use iPads in their beds and wheel chairs that need entertainment desperately and would benefit from a larger 14.9” iPad Pro. Weak wrists and artificial limbs could manage better with this option instead of laptops which are still hot and heavy and awkward. Tv’s are across the room detail is not visible. I could go on and on. The uses are as varied as the population.

As a designer, I would want a larger iPad because I like to use my iPad for drawing. While 12.9" isn't
horrible, I find that I have to do a lot of zooming in or out, and when I am drawing I find it very helpful to see the whole image as it helps with developing color and composition. BUT... It would have to have a full operating system, and not the cripplingly limited iOS. Also, it would also need to be able to connect to an external monitor, and have a useful way to move files to externally connected drives. Perhaps some day, apple will wake up and make the monitor of the Mac book pro removable!

Most users don't need giant tablets. But some of us do. Musicians need large tablets to display two-up sheet music that is readable at a distance. Engineers and architects need big devices that can display large drawings with fine detail. Designers and artists need big displays because of course they do. Just because you personally don't need one, you shouldn't vote these things down in polls. Apple will only build them if there is enough interest. We can all see that these products should exist, to support the subset of users who really need them. Because they in turn create products that all of us enjoy. And trust me, you haven't really experienced an iPad until you've had an 8.5x11 sheet displayed at close to full scale on an iPad Pro.

The same size as the 15 inch MacBook Pro display as an ideal upper limit. Makes both screenshare to of the Mac onto the iPad nice, and makes the iPad an excellent aux display for the MacBook. Apple should consider buying Duet. It enhances their ecosystem.

  • Kenneth - 5 years ago

No because 14.9 inches or more iPad Pro would kill MacBook Air and MacBook Retina. That’s a bad move. Sorry!

Still need to find a chance to play with the new iPad Pro 12.9 but if it is anything like the previous iteration, it's already a behemoth. Anything larger could be considered the fabled iTv

As laptops get lighter and easier to carry, I think they make more sense than something like a 15” tablet, except perhaps for photographers and artists. Maybe Apple should consider making a MacPro device like the Microsoft Surface.

I like to use the 12.9'' as a second monitor when using my 15'' MacBook Pro. I would love for apple to make a 'dummy' iPad in order to use a second screen only. Something that dosent need to be plugged to a wall like a regular screen does. If some of the components like speakers, camera, Face ID or other could be removed perhaps the price could be lowered. I also think that if they were to make an independent screen, then matching the size of the curent 15'' MBP would be great.

  • Tonny - 5 years ago

Depends - 12.9 is the biggest for a machine that's "grab able", but if it's for replacing a stationary machine, it could probably be a bigger, but that kinda defeats the purpose of a tablet, I think

Personally I would love to see something different - Apple drawing tablet, whoch doesn't have its own OS and instead is hooked up with Mac or Windows machine, like Wacom tablets. It would provide a superb drawing experience and benefit of using the power of the computer and full blown apps like photoshop or Zbrush, but it wpuld need to be at least 16 inches big. Still would like the current aspect ratio instead of 16:9. One can dream xd

Every artist knows you put your shoulder into every stroke. That's why artists draw on large tables. I've been wanting a 'Pro' size iPad for a long time, and a double size screen would allow for natural hand motion. I'm surprised I'm such in the minority on this.

As a musician, I am using the Microsoft Surface Book 2 15-inch to read sheet music on a music stand. Normal size of printed music is even bigger than a letter-sized paper of 8.5”x11”. Most of the sheet music like the publisher Henle uses 9.25”x12.2” paper, around the same size as an ARCH A paper. This is the reason I am using the tablet portion of the Microsoft Surface Book 2 15-inch.

However, I’d be really glad if Apple can make an iPad with 15-inch screen size.

Would love to have an iPad Hub, something to put on the wall in the kitchen with special apps.... part TV, radio, shopping list, weather, calendar, reminder, etc.

First, Apple should work on making iOS an operating system that can allow the iPad to replace a computer. It needs:
    - File system access
    - Mouse/Trackpad support (users are welcome to not display a cursor on screen if they choose)
    - Real windowing of apps
    - Ability to support external devices

They can learn from what Microsoft has done with Windows on the Surface Pro. iOS is a far better OS for a tablet, but surely Apple could add the functionality listed above. Let users disable it, if they abhor those features, or don't want to accept the security risks of an accessible file system. But make the functionality possible, if they want the iPad to be more than an internet consumption device for some of us - business and technical users. Until then, an iPad of any size is just an adjunct to a full-featured computer.

    I’m with the bigger-is-better re: iPads. Typing this on a gen1 14

I am not holding my breadth but I would like to see Apple design a new iPad Mini that splits the difference in size between the current iPad/iPad Pro 11 and the current iPad Mini 4. The iPad Mini is not just a kids or cheap eReader tablet...many professionals use an iPad Mini as their daily driver to do their jobs. If you need to put your tablet into your jacket pocket while out all day or on the steering wheel of a private plane or propped up in small little workspace, you appreciate what I mean. You can get a ton of work done on these little tables. Ever notice that the folks in the Apple store walk around with mostly iPad Mini's to check customers in, check available stock, look up other info, etc!

But at a minimum, I would take the current iPad Mini 4 as is with just a processor and RAM upgrade! Ok to tweak the camera and even remove the headphone jack but keep it the current thinness!

A standard 8.5*11 piece of paper comes out to what would be a 13.9" screen so that's the golden number I think. With super slim bezels that would become crazy completing to replace paper in professional environments, I think

  • Tas - 5 years ago

The 10.5 is the perfect size for a tablet. 12.9 and up is just too big. If you are going that size, just use a laptop.

  • Paul - 5 years ago

15" but with MacOS inside... Why they don't make ipad with MacOS is beyond me... yeah yeah I know the blah blah why not, but that's only marketing blabbering, I am sure it's technically achievable

  • Noam - 5 years ago

Yes, I would love to see a bigger ipad. I am an artist and use it for sketching but feel it is a little smaller than I would like. I think a 15 inch model would be great. The other possibility would be a bendable screen that can either be a monitor and keyboard or all monitor so that would double screen space for digital painting or drawing.

    I could use a 14-15"er with a 16:9 aspect ratio

The iPad pro 12.9" is already a beast. And we are constantly getting into the same loophole. The iPad Pro, as powerful as it may be, is not a computer. It just isn't. Add as much power, screen size, features as you want, it runs iOS. Optimize it? Sure. How about an iPadOS which allows you to actually act like a Surface? (Running another OS, obviously, but you get the idea). Nonetheless for bigger screens you may find a fairly priced Macbook Air (new gen) and although it isn't a huge bump from 12.9 to 13.3 inches, it is bigger AND it IS a full Laptop computer. Not a tablet. No iOS. No Android. MacOS it is.

A large iPad would be a great way for Apple to make a touchscreen computer with a top drawer operating system. There are large PCs and Googles, we need an Apple product!

I have a 10 inch 2018 model and it seems like the perfect fit for media consumption and on the go web browsing and reading. I can easily always pack it with me and not worry about the bulk and whether I really need it. A bigger model would not fit that use case and would rather be something to only being for serious work, but for that my surface (or a MacBook for those who like them) is much more useful. If the iPad could run full desktop apps and had a better keyboard like the surface, it would be a different story.

  • Ken Spreitzer - 5 years ago

For me, the iPad mini is the perfect size for everything I use it for. I'd love an updated mini! (Not holding my breath...)

  • Glen Young - 5 years ago

I'd love to see at 27" iPad. I'm thinking this would be in the form of more or less an "iOS desktop" Microsoft surface studio style. So not a portable device. Something that's used at a desk, on an arm with pencil and keyboard as input in addition to touch. Of course, having software to support this would be just as important as the hardware, but it really doesn't feel we are all that far away from it.

  • Alan - 5 years ago

Apple needs to upgrade the operating system first!

  • Roberto Isca - 5 years ago

They first need to make iOS more powerful and open, before we really need a bigger screen

  • Mike A. - 5 years ago

No, but instead of a biger iPad, I'd love a macbook with a touchscreen. I love my 2016 macBook pro 15". It would be even lovelier with a touchscreen

  • Richard - 5 years ago

I would love a table sized iPad as a center hub to HomeKit. Otherwise anything above 12.9 isn’t portable enough

  • Kalwin - 5 years ago

I think no unless they are going to call it the MacPad

  • Joe - 5 years ago

I'd love a larger (bezel-less) iPad. I use the gen-1 12.9 inch version for reading and annotating musical scores. Bigger (with a high-dpi screen) would be great!

  • Steve - 5 years ago

Apple should spend the time on iOS improvements to make the iPad Pro more capable. It is too limiting as the only "go to" device.

  • iManos - 5 years ago

Having owned almost all the classic sized big iPads (and iPhones) since the beginning, I believe that even the old 12.9 is big and a bit away from the tablet philosophy. I am tempted to buy the new 12.9 and I most probably will, since it’s footprint is a bit smaller than last year’s monster. Of course, this is how I see things now. Opinions change by time and I am amazed how easily I bought the XS MAX, considering that I regarded the X bulky.
