I Live on Bowen Island and the only service here is Canada Post! I should also mention that I up-roooted my entire life on the mainland to move to Bowen Island and bought a truck, signed a 5 year deal with Canada Post to become a Contract Carrier because no one at CP wanted this run. So not only is my mail not being delivered, I lose my pay everyday Vancouver CPP is down.

    What's a Post Office?

  • Olga - 5 years ago

I live in the Southern Gulf Islands where we really don't have other options for delivery as all mail/parcels come through or get transferred to Canada Post. So....many days, there is no mail delivery and parcels get stuck at major centres and can't move. I hope the strike ends quickly and in a reasonable and equitable manner so we can get the mail moving again.

I believe in unions, benefits, sick leave and pensions. However the public service is getting 0.5 to 1.0 percent per year increase, not 3.5% per year as demanded by CUPW. I would pay postal workers the hours they work - no free overtime, and also work on their safety issues. Parcels are the way of the future, so management must adapt, provide dolleys, safe equipment, etc. for the workers. Also, houses with barking and growling dogs should not get door to door parcel delivery because one never knows if Fido will bite. Papa and mama pet parent can go to the post office to pick up their parcels rather than have a dog bite a postal worker. Also if your driveway is full of ice do not expect a postal worker to injure themselves. If you cannot clear the ice yourself or hire this help, move into a condo or apartment rather than risk injury to workers.

I know it is an inconvenience to us, however in this case, some of the conditions these people have to work in to do their jobs is not acceptable. It is not always about the money. I am not for or against unions, I am for safety in the work place wherever that is. Safe working conditions is something worth fighting for.

I have only been getting my mail sporadically since January. I am missing all kinds of personal mail . I have complained four time . But nothing seems to be done about it. The letter carriers want a raise but can not seem to do their job by delivering the mail. Most of my mail is missing ( bills banking info.) I do not trust a computer to pay bills online .

Why are they making the public suffer for their demands?? I believe in this day and age unions are nothing more than glorified gangsters

Canada Post, you and your workers are an absolute waste of time. You deserve each other.

The was a need for strikes and unions in the early 1900s. Not any more. Teachers pensions government pensions. So much wasted money capitulating to unions and striking workers. Detroit as a city had to claim bankruptcy due to wasted contracts by unions who kept demanding more and more. The auto workers unions ran their respective companies into bankruptcy and because of their sheer size forced government bailouts. I have worked very hard and have no pension. My friends were amazed at the ammount.of hours and effort I put.into working. I am now semi retired at 53 years of age. After starting over 19 years ago I just worked really hard and stopped wasting money. I did not go on strike. I am a labourer. Floor installer. Just work hard and prepare

Negotiations need to continue I have seen so many strikes over the years and the only thing I have seen is financial hardship because you will never regain most times what you have lost

Be damn glad you have a job. There are thousands of people out there who would scoop your jobs in a minute. Your benefits alone are more than what some people starting out will get. Also your jobs will be redundant very soon and then what. I do not understand why you people think the world revolves around you. Get to work and quit the bitching.

  • Salim - 5 years ago

So public servants are allowed to strike whenever they want......so what is next.........firefighters refuse to work due to risk of inhaling hazardous gas or police on strike (dangerous assignments-life in jeopardy). Don't like your job then quit (or unable to find better ones?). Certainly there are some good postal workers (efficient with good work ethics), most are just so damn lazy and not detail oriented in their delivery assignments.

I check my mail maybe twice a month. It's only junk mail. Bill's are all online now.

  • Tyler - 5 years ago

Strike away! Labour unions set the tone for work and wage standards across the country.

And no, they don't go on strike every year around the holidays. That's highly incorrect. The last time CUPW held rolling strikes was in July of 2011. Check your info haters.

Christmas is a few weeks ago. Stay out forever if you want to, you are lucky to have a job. I don't support strikes. If you don't like the job, find one that you do like.

  • M stowe - 5 years ago

They are lucky to have a job they are so inefficient. Theybgo in strike around the hilidays every year. Let us get rid of them and use other services

  • Joe - 5 years ago

    Not impressed

  • Dwana Atkins - 5 years ago

I don't get a lot of mail, but I'm waiting for a piece of mail that I need. Had I known they were going to post it I would have had them deliver it through a courier.

Glorified paper boys. They will be obsolete in 10 years. Too much bull shot.

Definately been affected... but I don't blame the workers... strike all you need to. Do what you need to... support ya!

  • B Collins - 5 years ago

Make them essential services and band strikes. With computer communication conventional letter writing and Bill sending will become obsolete. Folks may wish to train for other occupational opportunities. It has happen to many of us in the private sector already.

  • Wally - 5 years ago

I get all my bills on line & pay everything on line. Regular mail is mainly junk mail anyway.
