Should Canadian citizens who fought for other Allied countries be allowed access to long-term care facilities just for veterans?

My father was welcomed into Ridgewood veterans hospital in Saint John NB with open arms and warm smiles... He served in the British commonwealth WW2 as he was from NFLD and NFLD was not part of Canada at that time.
If my father was seen as a Canadian veteran then why isn’t Mr. Smith?
God love him for not being bitter.
That would have broke my fathers heart to hear that.

I cannot believe what I just read. A war vet who fought for our freedom and is now a Canadian citizen is not allowed a bed in a home that supposedly has 29 empty beds. What a disgrace! rules are need to be readjusted as time moves on to keep up with the times. If they have so many empty beds supposedly for patients then where are they? I never heard of keeping beds more than 1 or 2 days..Prime Minister needs to examine this set up.

I think it's disgraceful that any allied vet that has become a Canadian should not be allowed into Camp Hill or any similar establishment in this country! Many of the allied vets moved to Canada after the wars and have paid taxes that have supported places like Camp Hill all of these years, which makes it even worse that they don't qualify for care. My husband served for 36 years in the Canadian Navy and it sounds like he may also not meet the standards to be admitted to Camp Hill because he didn't suffer an injury that relates back to his service. Totally disgraceful! Why are we allowing all of these beds to go to waste when there are those who clearly deserve and should be entitled to the use of one? Did we not just have Remembrance Day to honour the veterans who served in all of the wars? Is it all a sham for our government? Canada is part of the British Commonwealth and I think it is a disgrace that our country isn't doing a better job of caring for veterans like this gentleman. Our Prime Minister and his cabinet should be totally ashamed of themselves to allow this situation to continue status quo!

For God sake let the man live his declining years in dignity. He is an allied veteran and a Canadian citizen.
He isn't asking for much but a bed and companionship. He's 91 years old.
