Wally and Mike are rght , look at Abbotsford . Not RCMP and are in huge drug mess. Need to work on charges against these criminals.
It amazes me after each shooting the words are "no danger to the public" coming from cops and news broadcasts. These punks are missing their targets all the tiime.
And finally ( not racist) lets go furthur. Looking at immediate families of these 19 , 20 year criminals driving new Cadillacs, Humvees, etc. They got be asking themselves " my son doesn't work yet he is so rich.." .
The short news clips of the relatives mourning at the home of the deceased " he wasn't a bad person, never did anything wrong..Huh...Sad.

Besides having to create a training program jas anyone considered the cost of equipment. I would find it hard to belive the RCMP(after being kicked out) would just give or sell at a steep discount all their equipment that a new Surrey Police force would need. There are the cars, body armor, guns, computers, tasers, riot gear, bikes, buildings, etc. That will be required to purchase new or used (ie RCMP) not to mention over 800 new uniforms (assuming each officer ONLY gets one). Will the new force use the same buildings or relocate? More leases equals more money. There is so much more to the cost of a police force then wages, yes those will be higher as well. What about benefits, if those are better than the RCMP that increases the overall cost as well. I strongly encourage people to think about the whole picture just not wages.

Keeping the status quote is just stupid. Ask yourself, why keep the RCMP. The only reason is money and money is not more important than investing in the future of our city. The time to get rid of RCMP is long overdue. Their history in Canada is not always to be applauded. Their daily practice of “the old boys club” is total crap. They train officers here and then ship them out. It’s time to have a local police force who is invested in our community. Just because “that’s the way it’s always been” is not good enough. Out with the old, sexist, old boys club and in with the new future of our city.

McCallum was an terrible mayor before, and his irrational vendetta against the RCMP will cost Surrey residents dearly. It's a disgrace that the careers of 800 dedicated officers can be kicked around by this two-bit politician. The gangs can't believe their luck!

With all due respect to the new Mayor, as a 55+ year resident of Surrey there are a few key elements of his platform that he has failed to both understand and accurately depict.

    - Does he truly believe that changing the uniform will change the well established crime activity and risk to innocent Surrey citizens? (re:Abbotsford Police Force)
    - McCallum is manipulating and misrepresenting his numbers which do not reflect the true opinions of 800,000 Surrey residents. I would be interested to learn how many people like my neighbour voted for McCallum because of his stance on LRT versus wanting a new police force?
    - The real issue around policing isn't in fact about where our police officers were born or where they currently live, it is about the well publicised gang culture that continues to be supported by their families. I'm not sure about you, but if my son and or daughter came home with a $85,000 luxury vehicle, 4 cell phones and had no job I would not only be suspicious I would take all actions necessary to remove him from that lifestyle regardless of the scorn from others.

Regardless of what police force we end up with. I would expect that the Mayor shows 100% support for any police officer that puts their life on the line (as they do every day). This issue is not about holding police accountable, it's about holding all families accountable.

The problem isn't the police. Its the drug policy. Its failing. We need to move towards regulation. At least we can all benefit from that $$$ instead of making gangsters rich which in turn give them the resources to get away with crime. Don't blame the players, blame the game. Its up to us to change the landscape.

He thinks he can do it in 2 years. Why does he assume most of the RCMP stationed in Surrey would stay? If half did ,they have to aquire and train 400 new recruits. Rookie police force is really going to do better than the RCMP? The mayor is just a control freak.

Where’s the proof that a local municipal police force does a better job on crime than the RCMP, how’s Abbotsford making out?? Mayor McCallum has had a vendetta against RCMP for years. If it goes through get out your wallets out to pay the increased tax bill.

If Surrey financed the rcmp at the same rate per capita as Vancouver spends on its municipal police force we would have 1/3 more rcmp officers on duty in surrey. Rather than all the upheaval which will occur with McCallum’s plan Surrey would be better served by better supporting the rcmp. Stoping crime and gang crime in particular isn’t as simple as having our own force as evidenced in Abbotsford this past weekend.

I am not sure that Surrey can pull this off with the money allotted. I don't disagree with them having there own police force but when the bills come in they will be after us for more money. It cant be done in 2 years. It will be more like 4 years and thus a shortage of funds. The new administration should do more homework and get it right. It may blow up in there faces.

Will be much better with local police personal

As a citizen of Surrey my interaction with Surrey RCMP is limited to traffic stops. I was never happy with a cop from somewhere else patrolling my streets. We have our own citizens we educate and are just as qualified to patrol my streets as some person named Pierre from Quebec. Local police who have local experience are probably better police.

The General Electorate, All Across Canada, Not just Surrey, BC, are somewhat Disallusioned with The Essence of The RCMP and What They Allude to Stand For, I.e. (a). MMIWG (b). Sixties Scoop (c). Robert Picton (d). Manitoba Hydro Fiasco (e). QPP Northern Quebec (g). Quebec Justice System Pedophile Ring.

The list is Practically Endless. The Structure of The RCMP Certainly Needs to Be Re-evaluated.
