Once again showing the fandom's bias. Instead of genuinely answering who would be the 7th element, people voted for their favorite pony.
I mean I get it, you worship Starlight and Spike bores you, but really? Spike deserves an element way more than Starlight.
Not that I think adding a 7th element would be a good idea though, it's too late for that.

My preference is none of the above, but if there has to be one I'd favor Starlight. Really, though, I see Starlight as something Other - maybe more queen material than princess., since she seems to show more leadership abilities than any of the princesses.

The 7th element was already awarded to Sunset Shimmer (confirmed by show staff in Twitter), and would only be mentioned in FiM in case of a crossover with EQG. If that doesn't happen, then the number of elements remains at six. If Spike was meant to be an element, he would have been one already, as he has been there from day one, but there was never anything indicating that he would be developed on this direction. As for Starlight, she already gets a lot of accusations of being a bootleg Sunset clone, so much that the staff made sure to develop her differently to make her an unique character. Furthermore, the elements are bonded by friendship, and Starlight's best friend is Trixie, not the Mane 6. If Starlight was to gain an element, so should Trixie.
A 7th Element? Ponies gonna hafta plant a new tree for that. Maybe around the time that Princess Celestia grows a second pair of wings, and Princess Luna a second head. It could happen everypony!

Agree with Sebastian, I feel that if Starlight is the 7th in Equestria then Sunset is in her world.
