Daily Poll: Do you support a cycling/walking path in the centre of Granville Bridge?

Granville bridge was built to move traffic efficiently by utilizing three streets with smooth merges on and off the bridge. Vancouver needs to build a pedestrian-only bridge crossing False Creek that takes people away from traffic instead of trying to combine the two. A good example of a pedestrian bridge that is also a piece of art is the Helix bridge in Singapore. A bridge like this would be an iconic symbol for Vancouver by showcasing the city's commitment to pedestrian friendly routes.

I live near Broadway & Granville...I use the transit system often, but on occasion will walk to downtown...on the day that I decided to walk the Granville Street bridge, my heart was in my mouth...I walked facing the traffic, so I could see cars coming speeding towards me....when I approached a young couple who were checking their iphones, I hugged the rail, as there was no way there was enough room for 3 walkers to pass one and other, without almost falling off the sidewalk into traffic...I now walk over to Cambie and walk that way...there is a proper protected walking/cycling area...I think having a pathway down the centre of the bridge is a great idea...offers protection to walkers and cyclists...bb
This idea is progressive and I hope it will go through City Council....

I don’t live in Vancouver. But I visit—often. I don’t visit Vancouver because it’s got a lot of nice places to drive my car. I park it at the hotel and walk or SkyTrain around the city.

Vancouver is beautiful. Keep it beautiful. Don’t go creating another Los Angeles.

There should be a staircase down to Granville Island from the bridge, either way! It is so annoying to be walking to Granville Island and get to be right above it, and still have so far to go.

We see an almost two to one ratio of people saying no. The next poll should be...do you think the City of Vancouver will listen to the overwhelming objection to this idea and not do it?

I mean seriously was the designer drunk? He/She has tables set up in the middle of the bridge with umbrellas. Only the City of Vancouver and the absolute morons who are destroying the roadway system would think this is a good idea.

They're so stupid that they don't realize if they put their obstructive inefficient ideas on each side of the bridge then people would say yes in overwhelming numbers. The people approving the dramatic and inefficient changes in Vancouver are absolute morons.

I am also a Vancouver resident and driver. Although I fear a SJW reprisal in today's world.

    - I often drive the Granville St bridge. The idea of putting a bike, lane -- that too in the center is beyond stupid.
    - I don't understand how many of us car drivers who daily suffer traffic, $$$ gas have to suffer and SJW bicycling minority who think they need a bike lane on an already narrow bridge.

Please Vancouver, come to your senses and stop this BS

    Sincerely,

    Vancouver Resident (Kits)

This proposal is another example of the height of stupidity by politicians who are focused on optics, desperately trying to look like we are greener than the next guy. remember "we will eliminate homelessness by 2015"?..If anyone wonders if their rent or property taxes are high, and that the city has way too much money to blow, then look at this and the other pie in the sky crap that has been shoved down the throats of the people who actually pay the bills. YES this is my real name and I live in Vancouver
