UGH, this was the hardest for me. I love both of these comedies, but I went with the one I liked more the first time I saw it (40-Year-Old Virgin) over the one where my love grew over multiple viewings (Anchorman).

Not a huge fan of either, but I went with Virgin. I think it's the one with more charm and more memorable moments.

I voted for Virgin, but Best in Show gets my write-in vote.

60% of the time, Anchorman is funnier every time.

I re-watched The 40-Year-Old Virgin recently and was surprised how pc it is. And it is not as funny as I remembered it either. It has uptight morale that has no place in really great comedy. It seems to be very old in my eyes nowdays. Comedy should be edgy, Anchorman it is for me!

When The 40-Year-Old Virgin came out, it was seen as this wild and unruly movie, the comedy your mother warned you about, but it seems positively restrained compared to the likes of Anchorman. I'm not sure which one is better, but I know which one makes me laugh harder, and which one I want to watch again as soon as possible. Anchorman it is.

Yes, Anchorman is the more quotable and even memorable film, but The 40 Year Old Virgin is the better directed and far more satisfying film. Judd Apatow has since started to push the bounds of injecting drama into his comedies (and the boundaries of runtime), but with this and Knocked Up he was nailing it.

Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burngandy has the news team street brawl. Nothing else is funnier! Brick’s hand grenade and Triten is worth it!
